......................... 2 Leyland Foxes.................. 0

Clitheroe Ladies’ Hockey side secured a fine win over Leyland. Both teams were

evenly matched, but after bringing on mother and daughter duo Fran and Anna Griffiths, the latter, gave Clitheroe the lead when she bundled the ball home from close range. They made certain of

Clitheroe Wolves Under 15 Girls..........................

SIX goals apiece fo r . Chelsea Crook and player of the match Joanne Green well and truly, saw the Wolves on their way to the next round of the cup. On a wet and nasty day,

the girls still managed to pass the ball around confi dently. to finish the game in style, as Brogan Cook kept yet another clean sheet. Further goals came from

Carly Thomas and Cather ine Bolton, who both net ted twice, before a single strike from Sara Forrest completed the rout. Akzo Orange................ 5 Wolves Under 1 3 s ..................

3

A FULL strength Akzo side were always going to be a tough test, but Wolves can consider themselves very unfortunate to come away from the game empty handed. Wolves took control of

the game in the first 15 minutes and were soon rewarded when Ryan Finnegan’s cross evaded the Akzo defence and Liam Anderson finished clinical ly at the far post.

After conceding an

equaliser, Wolves pulled ahead once more when Anderson netted his second after a scramble in the Akzo box. But instead of pressing home their advan tage Wolves collapsed and allowed Akzo back into the game with four sloppy goals to trail 5-2 at the interval. And even though the

goal i tha t came from a

DESPITE going a goal ahead through a Tom Gatens first half strike, Wolves were hit with three second half goals against the run of play. The locals had the upper

defensive error. Wolves Under 15s Blue .1 Lammack .-.............................

Wolves battled hard in the second half they could only close the deficit by a single goal when Finnegan met a Bedford cross with a pow erful finish. Keeper Matt Salisbury was named man of the

match. Wolves Under 1 1 s .................. Pendle Forest ..............................

3 0

CLITHEROE Wolves were unable to score against a well-organised top of the table side who deservedly took all three points. Forest scored early on in

the match and added a sec ond just before half-time. There were some good saves from man of the match

goalkeeper

McGrath, but he was unable to prevent a third

hand for the majority of the game, but sloppy defending allowed Lam mack back into the game. . However, the locals kept on battling until the final whistle, and a last-minute save by keeper James Scriven exemplified the team’s spirit. • Man of the match was

awarded to Chris Block- heel, who had a magnifi cent game in the heart of the defence. Accrington Amateurs .1 Wolves Under 1 0 s ..................

0

CLITHEROE’S cup run came to an end in this sec ond round encounter with Accrington Amateurs. The only goal of the

game came in the first minute of the match, when the Wolves defence failed to clear a long through ball. No further goals were

Clitheroe Wolves Under 10s who compete in the North Valley Football League, (s)

scored, but this was a real cup tie with both teams creating several chances. In the end Clitheroe gave as

good as they got, but unfortu nately they didn’t get the rewards that their play deserved. Man of the match was Ripley,

with good performances from Moorhouse, Ibbotson and Wells. Wolves Under 14s .................................. Oswaldiwistle Villa .........................

5 0

CLITHEROE Wolves notched up another good away win at Oswaldtwistle in a game domi nated s ta r t to finish by the locals. The end scoreline flattered the

visitors, but Wolves eased off the pressure in the second half and rode out an easy win. Scoring the goals for Wolves were Henri Lawson, who bagged

a hat-trick, and Conor Parfitt who netted a brace. . Man of the match was award

ed to Daniel Musgrove. Wolves Under8sBlue . . . Ormskirk JFC_________ ' . i M

MEETING for the second time this season, Wolves and Orm skirk played out a very equally matched display of football. Early pressure from the

Wolves and a good run from Read tested the water, before great forward play from Piercy and Read resulted in Wolves’ only strike of the game. After the break Ormskirk

stepped up the pressure, and man of the match, keeper Harry Paige, performed a fine save to keep them in the match. But the defensive partnership of Byrne and Shackleton were

eventually broken? and Orm skirk scored two quickfire goals to win the game. . Wolves Under 8 s ....................................... ■ Ilallon Ilolshols.......................................

WOLVES performed particular ly well against well-organised opposition. Halton took the lead with an

early goal, and Wolves needed to battle defensively to ensure the score did not rise. Unfortunately, after Clitheroe

went close through Sykora and Read, Halton scored a second and a third goal before half-time. In the second half, Wolves

continued to fight back with an early shot on goal, but play quickly moved back into the Clitheroe half where Halton scored their fourth and final goal.

season celebrated

CHATBURN Cricket Club held their presentation evening last week, and chairman Joe Wood- worth congratulated both teams on yet another successful season. The awards night, held at the

Brown Cow, saw first team player Steve Proctor take a hat-trick of awards - the best batsman acco lade, the captain’s award and the John Shovelton Shield for best bat ting performance of the season. Meanwhile, team-mate John

Lockley enjoyed double success as he was awarded both player and bowler of the season. Paul Whittaker was presented

victory five minutes from time when Fran sent a ball forward to Rachael Walmsley, who slipped the ball to Anna to fire home.

■ KATH TOWNLEY scored 20 points to win the ladies’ nine-hole Turkey Shoot at Clitheroe GC, which was sponsored by Stanworth Engineering.

Sheila Cornwell was runner-up in the.

popular end-of-season event with 17 points after a card play-off with Rose mary Sims.

also took home two awards after doing the double as best batsman and bowler, while team-mate Rus sell Braithwaite took the captain’s award and the Alan Townson

award for best bowling performance of the season. Meanwhile, Simon Tomlinson

received the fielding award for the first team, and Dave Lakin took home the respective second team award. Sharing the Young Player of the

Year award were Chris Waddington and John Reynolds, and Raf Park er received the Duck award. This season the first team fin

ished mid-table and the second team narrowly missed out on pro motion by finishing in fourth place. Chairman Woodworth thanked

the sponsors for their financial assistance and the committee, umpires and scorers for their com mitment. Special praise also went to

groundsman Paul Whittaker for once again preparing excellent wickets. The trophies were presented by club captain Terry Braithwaite.

nificent perfor mance, Readstone Under 11 Girls p r o g r e s s e d through to the next round of the cup after a 3-0 vic tory over Clitheroe Wolves. A brace for

Alisha Cryer and a third from player of the match Holly Ormonde was enough to take the game. In the Warbur-

ton League, Read stone Under 12s continue to recover from a slow start to the season with a 4-1 victory over Bacup Borough. Goal scorers

were Josh Ramsey (2) and Luke Basterfieid, while David Boyes.was the pick of the players. A hat-trick from

of play, Settle scored a second from a corner. Whalley contin

IN this top against bottom clash, Whalley fought hard and lost against superior opponents. Oswaldtwistle

opened their account early on, but Whalley man aged to hold their visitors at bay for a further 30 minutes before

they increased their lead

with two further goals. The second half

was much the same as Villa fired a fur ther five goals past a battling Whalley side. Whalley Pumas Under 14s . . .

W H A L L E Y Juniors Pumas endured a close match against Haslingden Juniors and were first to score in this bat tling encounter. The Pumas

started well when Arran McCarthy fired them into the lead after two min utes, but Hasling den struck back and then went ahead. McCarthy then

scored his second to see the Pumas go in level at the interval. After the break

Haslingden had the better chances and a calamitous own goal with just two minutes left to play gifted the visi tors victory. Shomi Malik,

Sam Townsend and man of the match Gary Micallef all per formed impressive ly for the Pumas.

Roland stars for R o efield

THE reverse of the previous week’s fix ture saw a weak ened Roefield side thrashed 13-0 at Fulledge Colts.. . . A different for

mation ■ was employed to boost the defence, and this seemed to work well early on. During the sec

ond half, the young Roefield outfit began to tire and

■ more pressure was put on the defence. Man of the

match Roland Parker (pictured) worked tirelessly in . midfield and creat ed the most threat

until the final five minutes of the game when Rishton equalised through a penal

ening attack of the: match, only to be denied by the keep er.

The final score

was an improve ment on last week, and the locals are hoping to have a fully-fit side back to face. Rishton on Saturday. -■ .
