Hat-trick hero ;■ gives Reserves opening victory
Clitheroe Reserves..................•........................" " ’t Ashton Town Reserves............... ................ .......2
■ A SUPERB second half hat-trick from new boy Glen Ainsworth helped secure the points in this excellent performance at Shawbridge on Satur
day,' The Blues were always in charge of this game
against a tough, physical side who had got off to.a - flier last week with a rout against Chadderton. _ The second string stopped Ashton from getting
the ball and being able to settle in to any rhythm at all.
And they went in ahead at the break after-
Richard Fogarty linked up well with the impressive Tom Benfield to supply a pin point cross which Andy Preston thumped home.
The young Blues came back out for. the second half and took the game up a gear and ultimately
away from Ashton. .Danny Stanley came on as second half substitute
for Matt Garner and terrorised the visitors’ left back and delivered for Ainsworth to slot his maiden goal for the club with a composed finished from
inside the box. Stanley added the third 10 minutes later when
good movement caused panic and he gave the keeper no chance. This sparked off a crazy five-minute goal spree, with Ashton pulling one back with a suspi; ciously off-side-looking goal before Ainsworth secured his hat trick with a stunning volley from the
edge of the box. The Reserves take on local rivals Padiham on Sat
urday at the Arbories, kick off 3 p.m.
