Local runner dies short of his ‘grand’ target
A GHATBURN man whose love of the out doors gained him the nickname "the man who ran" has died aged
74.

collapsed and died. Known to all as a true
gentleman, in 1995, at the age of 67, he com pleted his 50th circuit of the classic Three Peaks Walk. Bom in 1927, he lived
in Downham Road all his life. He had worked as a draughtsman at Rolls- Royce, Bamoldswick, for 41 years, before retirirfg in 1985. In his younger days,
he was heavily involved in amateur dramatics and was a member of the Clitheroe Players, under the direction of Mrs Greta Wilkinson. His love of acting and the theatre led him to pro duce the village pan tomimes in Chatbum. A keen cyclist, he
next 15 years, whatever the weather, he complet ed the circuit no less than .56 times, taking around 10 hours to complete the 25-mile trip. When asked if he ever became tired of walking the three peaks, his replywas tha t the day he stopped enjoying it would be the day he stopped doing the walk. With friends and for
