A conservatory for all seasons launched

CIVIC dignitaries and council offi cials visited the Ribble Valley firm which is committed to creating "con-, servatories for all seasons". Among the p a r ty which visited ;

Ultraframe's Salthill Road works were the Mayor of RibbleValley, Coun. Joyce Holgate; MP MrlNigel Evans; borough council Chief Executive Mr David Morris; council leader Coim.' Chris Holtom; Couns Frank Dyson, John Hill, Graham Sowter,. Richard Sherras and Howel Jones, and Mr Richard Kirkby, the borough's design and conservation officer.; During their visit to the Clitheroe- based company, the group saw its plans

( to extend into the sale of ;a pioneering /glass product which is designed to stay

/clean, save energy, and cpnform with new. environmental legislation; Conservaglass, described as a "lead

ing edge environmental, control tech nology", was acquired by Ultraframe

when it bought North America's leadr. ; ing sunroom manufacturer, the Four.. Seasons group, for £88.5m. last July. With more than 45 million square .

metres of Conservaglass already sold in the States, the Clitheroe-based com pany believes the product will provide it with great opportunities.' . The product offers a combination of:

factors which will enable customers to . enjoy a comfortable conservatory envi-. ronment all year round. Its invisible sil-. ver coating enhances summertime.;: comfort by reducing overheating, and ' in winter provides extra insulation, by retaining warmth and reflecting it back indoors. Boys model new choir robes Extension has the impact

of ‘a shanty town’- claim AN unauthorised exten sion on s t i l ts a t Stirk House Hotel, Gisburn, has the visual impact of a shanty town! T h a t is the claim

made by a local resident to Ribble Valley Bor ough Council. Officials describe the

nine-by-two-and-a-half metre construction just over two metres in height as "inappropriately designed". I t is some distance

from the ground, due to the stilts. Tonight's meeting of

the council Planning and Development Commit tee is being recommend

ed to refuse Mr Malcolm Weaving’s application for the extension, described as a veranda and Conser vatory, and to use hotel bedrooms as self-catering accommodation. Councillors are also

recommended to take enforcement action for the removal of the exten sion. A report for the meet

ing makes i t clear that change of use of the bed rooms to self-catering might be allowed. But the extension is a

visual detriment to the locality and should be removed.
