Wrestling with an unusual subject
NO holds are barred when it comes to a wide field of trips out for pupils at St Marys Hall
oreDaratory school, Stonyhurst. P Staff and pupils are proud of such achievements as elite national-level rugby wins a n d choir performances
in both Roman Catholic and Anglican cat^ edra'®' . But they are supplemented by a mmd-broaden ng
programme aimed at learning about, and from, the world outside school.
Behind the scenes visits are a speciality. II"e one The one
where some of the pupils were entertained by Mrs Cherie Blair at 10 Downing Street is unlikely to be bet
tered. but meetings with stars such as “ and Russ Abbott were supplemented when a St Marys party visited All American Star Wrestling at Burnley

across the world, are pictured with two of the visiting stars.
Valley residents invited to comment on county future
R E S ID E N T S in th e Ribble Valley are being asked to help shape the fu tu re development of Lancashire over the next
decade. The county council,
together with the unitary authorities of Blackburn with Darwen and Black pool, is asking people to comment on a document called "Challenges and
Changes". By looking at the chal
lenges facing the county over the next 15 years, offi cials hope to find ways of
meeting them. The main aims are to make the coun ty an attractive place to live, work and visit, as well as preserving the character and commercial health of the region, improving the urban areas, protecting the countryside and boosting leisure and tourism oppor

tunities. "Lancashire is a county
of many contrasts, coast, moorland, hills and town, said County Coun. George Slynn. "The Structure Plan will set out the strategy for making our area a prosper
ous and better place to live in the future. Gathering the views of the public is an important part of formulat ing these plans and I would urge people to get involved by looking through the doc ument and filling in the questionnaire. Remember this is your chance to have a say in the future." Both the report and
