Mr Evans joined the
riders at the crack of dawn to take on the role of

Press operator Philip
Hodgson, one o f the organisers who also rode,
told the Advertiser and Times: “There were a few amusing moments on the trip, with some riders get ting lost in the Lake Dis trict. Luckily we had mobile telephones and our vehicle support team was able to get them back on track.
“By the time we crossed
the border, we were all together again and riding in convoy, with people cheering us along the way.”
The long-distance team
made an overnight stop in Keswick and pedalled for five hours on each of two days.
Mr Hodgson and his fel
low organiser, toolmaker Eamon Boyle, said they
would like to pay a special tribute to those who took part in the shorter ride. Mr Hodgson explained: “Those who went to Dum fries are very experienced cyclists, but the others rarely ride and yet they all finished the distance d e s p i t e v e r y we t weather.”
The management pro
