SCHOOL holiday bore dom has been kept at

bay thi s summer, thanks to a fun-packed activities programme set up by the borough

council. “Sports and Arts in Rural

Parts” has provided young sters of all ages with the chance to participate in a wide variety of events and activities, including village p l a y s c h em e s , s o c c e r schools, art workshops and

coaching courses. One of th e m o s t p o p u la r

events has been a summer camp held a t Roefield Leisure Centre, w h ich h a s ru n e v e ry d ay throughout th e holidays. The children were divided into two age groups — five to sevens and th e o v e r -e ig h ts — and th e groups rotated every hour from one pursuit to another.

The camp provided activities

were not filled. Mr Rodia said: “The summer c am p h a s b e e n v e ry w e ll

attended and parents know that if they left their children for the day, they would have lots of fun in a play-safe environment.” He added: “We provided a

part in more unusual activities, like rock climbing and “I t ’s a Knock Out”.

Mr Rodia said: “This is only

whole range of activities, includ ing arts sessions, because not all children like sport.”

The summer camp provided

well-trained staff, three of whom are presently taking teacher training courses, who led and motivated the children and got them to try a whole host of new experiences. As well as team games, which include cricket, short tennis, basketball and foot b a ll , th e c h i ld re n w a tch ed videos, made biscuits and took

the second year th a t we have held the summer camp and it was very well supported.” He added: “The s ta f f have
