WHAT’S ON IN YOUR COUNT Y CLASSICAL MUSIC FUNDRAISER

The Dean of Hereford’s Piano Recital, performed by Janusz Piotrowicz de Jagiellon takes place on Thursday, October 20 in the College Hall and is a fundraiser for the British Red Cross Ukraine Crisis Appeal.

Janusz will perform a moving programme featuring the music of Scarlatti, Mozart, Chopin, Liszt and Rachmaninov. This intimate recital will be an exclusive opportunity to experience a celebrated musician in beautiful surroundings whilst fundraising for a powerful cause.

As a schoolboy, Janusz Piotrowicz made his piano concerto debut in Windsor Castle with Rachmaninov's Piano Concerto No 3 and his London recital debut with Chopin's Second and Third Sonatas and Brahms’ Paganini Variations.

As well as his musical work, in 1986, he established The World Trust, which promotes and supports humanitarian causes across the globe.

Doors and bar open at 6.45pm, with a welcome from the Dean shortly before the performance. Tickets cost £25 and can be purchased via www.herefordcathedral.org.

BEDTIME COMEDY

TV comedian Seann Walsh makes an appearance in Hereford this month with his unique brand of humour.

“Hello, Seann here. Did you know that comedians have to write their own blurb? I find that absolutely insane. What am I meant to say? ‘I’m fantastic, come and look at me talk’? I don’t know. It’s me. I do stand-up.

I guess I can start with the fact I renamed the tour. Sticking with ‘Same Again?’ felt a bit triggering after the year we’ve had. So it is now called Back from the Bed. Some of the material will be the same as I had always planned and some of it will be new because it will be difficult to avoid mentioning the last year in which millions of decent people tragically lost their lives to TikTok.”

See him at the Courtyard Theatre in Hereford on Wednesday, October 12. For tickets visit courtyard.org.uk

THOUGHT-PROVOKING DANCE

A new dance theatre work about love, loss, memory and resolution is being performed by a group of extraordinary dance artists at the Courtyard this month.

Your Heart is too Loud (previously titled ‘I’m Not Dead, I’m Only Sleeping’) explores what it means to live fully in the moment and asks what we might change if given just months, weeks, days to live. It charts our search for joy and longing to connect, looking at the end of things and the brink of new beginning, with tenderness, honesty and humour.

The show is on Monday, October 17. For tickets visit courtyard.org.uk 79
