Just three short months since the country joined together to celebrate Her Majesty the Queen’s historic Platinum Jubilee we were reunited once more, not in joy though but grief following her sad passing on September 8. As a nation we then commemorated her remarkable life eleven days later during her final farewell on September 19 as the world watched on.

During the period of mourning, who could fail to be moved as her four children, the now King Charles III, Princess Anne, Princes Andrew and Edward, and all of her extended family, lead the mourning across the country. We will never forget those truly emotional Vigils of the Princes, where the family stood quietly guard at the side of her coffin at both St Giles’ Cathedral in Edinburgh and Westminster Hall in London with their own personal grief etched onto their faces as the cameras recorded every moment and thousands of mourners filed passed, saying their own goodbyes.

Her funeral was like no other we have ever seen nor are likely to see again in our lifetimes. Dignified, solemn and beautifully touching, it was delivered with all the magnificent pomp and ceremony fitting a wonderful monarch who has served her country so tirelessly during her 70 year reign. Those foot-perfect processions and the precision of the pall bearer party were truly mesmerising, awe-inspiring and so quietly respectful. What an honour for all of those involved.

The floral tributes which flanked the Long Walk as she headed into Windsor Castle were breath-taking and will be one of the many sights of the day that will stay with us forever like those overhead shots in Westminster Abbey.
The late Queen’s love of the countryside, and particularly her horses and dogs, is well documented so to see her beloved fell pony Emma and her two corgis Muick and Sandy brought out for her one last time as she made her steady way to her final resting place was so poignant.
Now finally she is laid to rest, reunited with her ‘strength and stay’ Prince Phillip, the Duke of Edinburgh, and we thank her for all she has achieved during her tireless tenure.
We salute you Ma’am. God Save the King.
