FLORAL FANCIES
A couture florist who has arranged flowers for the Queen’s Christmas Speech created a Platinum Jubilee floral showstopper at a top Warwickshire hotel.
Alison Gainford, founder of Lili Floral Art in Tardebigge, Redditch, was commissioned to design special tributes at the entrances of three properties within the boutique Eden Hotel Collection, including The Arden Hotel in Stratford-upon-Avon.
While at Mallory Court Country House Hotel and Spa in Leamington in-house florist Jo
Haworth from Solihull Creations, has gone for eye-catching red, white and blue arrangements above and around the arched main entrance.
Alison, whose floral arrangements were seen by millions when the Queen’s Speech was broadcast from Buckingham Palace on Christmas Day in 2012, said: “My aim at The Arden Hotel was to make it sophisticated, not too wild and garden-like or too structured. I sketch all designs in advance to suit the style of the building. It features a mix of fresh foliage - eucalyptus and salal – with white wisteria.
QUEEN’S BIRTHDAY HONOURS 102
Rob Colbourne, managing director of Midlands training provider Performance Through People, has been awarded an OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours. Mr Colbourne has headed PTP Training, part of the BCTG Group, for nearly 18 years, and was behind the launch of The Ladder campaign that has created more than 4,000 apprenticeships across the region since 2018. He has received the honour in recognition of
his services to the training and apprenticeship sector. Mr Colbourne, aged 52, who is married with three children and lives in Walsall, said: “I was genuinely surprised but very honoured when I received a letter telling me I was to receive an OBE.
“I have never sought such an award, but am nevertheless very proud, especially because of the emotive response from my parents.”
“What’s great is that the hotel is right in the heart of Stratford, by the river opposite and the RSC Theatres, so lots of people were walking past saying how lovely it was.
“I love working with Eden Hotel Collection and I love the Queen too! I was due to be presented to her at Buckingham Palace in 2012, but just missed on the royal handshake as she was called out to deal with an urgent crisis. But I can say I have the honour of being in the same room as her!”
BATON REL AY VISITS MOTOR MUSEUM
The Birmingham 2022 Queen’s Baton Relay will visit the British Motor Museum this month on Friday, July 22 as part of its route around Britain ahead of the Commonwealth Games.
Jeff Coope, managing director of the British Motor Museum, said: “We feel very privileged that the Queen’s Baton Relay will visit the museum. We are looking forward to celebrating the arrival of the baton and will be working with our local community and visitors to give it a warm welcome, including hosting a special parade of British iconic cars and a display of Royal Cars that we have in our prized collection.”
The baton will arrive at the Museum at approximately 9:53am, leaving 20 minutes later. Members of the public are encouraged to go and line the museum’s main driveway to watch the baton and parade of British cars. There will also be a special Gaydon Gathering of 200 British classics which spectators can view. After the Baton has left (approximately 10.30am), the museum it will open its doors with a special discounted entry for the day.
Inside the Welcome Gallery visitors will be able view a display of vehicles from the Royal household including the first bespoke Royal Land Rover state review car,
one of the fleet of vehicles used for HM Queen Elizabeth II’s first Commonwealth Tour in 1953/4 and a 1971 Rover P5B, the personal property of HM the Queen but on long term loan to the Museum.
