he key factors when selecting the proper winch system for a corresponding carrier vehicle are performance, flexibility, safety and the optimal use of the available installation space in the vehicle. Similarly, it is important to consider the task that the winch system is intended to carry out.
In the case of highly mobile logistics vehicles, this is almost exclusively self- recovery for when these vehicles become stuck. In case of recovery and towing vehicles, it is the retrieval of other vehicles that have broken down. Both are usually solved with a single winch. In the case of heavy-duty transporters or engineering tanks, the task is more complex, which
also increases the demands on the winch system. Twin-winch systems on heavy-duty transporters are tasked with pulling damaged vehicles onto the low-loader safely. Unloading must be performed with absolute reliability, therefore exact and safe positioning of the load is paramount – and that is only possible with a twin winch. In special purpose vehicles, such as engineering tanks, twin winches are usually used to clear barriers and barricades. Both winches can be used simultaneously to tear down a barrier or to process two different tasks at the same time, which significantly reduces the deployment time – especially for applications that do not require full-line pull.
