Sector Market Update: Plywood & OSB | 19

SUMMARY

■TDUK stats show 2024 plywood volumes up 3% and OSB up 4% on the previous year

■The EUDR/UKDR, anti-dumping investigations, and tariffs are creating “a perfect storm”

■Finnish spruce plywood is still strong in the market

■The market for OSB4 is growing in the UK as a heavy-duty board

DEFINITELY MAYBE IMPROVING

The plywood and OSB markets are in a position of some uncertainty and, like everywhere else, President Trump’s tariffs and their possible implications are much discussed. Mike Botting reports

Timber Development UK (TDUK) published its Timber Statistics report in early March 2025, highlighting the changes in the UK panels markets up to the end of 2024. Comparing January to December 2024 with the same period in 2023 showed plywood import volumes up 3% and OSB up 4%. However, 2025 was already failing to live up to plywood market expectations even before President Trump threw some rather large spanners around. ►
