Ed Sutch tells TTJ. But demand for timber products is underpinned by their combination of inherent sustainability and performance characteristics, plus latest technical innovation


TTJ: HOW HAS THE CLADDING BUSINESS BEEN OVER THE LAST YEAR? Ed Sutch (ES): Timber cladding at Vincent Timber has performed strongly. It’s been a positive and progressive period, with a clear focus on strengthening relationships, welcoming strong talent, and refreshing the brand through a refined digital strategy. The launch of our new website has been a key milestone, delivering tangible results and increased enquiries. We’re seeing strong specification across both new build and renovation, with a noticeable increase in school projects. This reflects the strength of the educational work delivered in recent years, supported by close collaboration with talented contractors and project teams.


While composite products play a role in the wider market, many customers still choose us for traditional design approaches and natural, environmentally sourced timber solutions. Homeowners and developers are increasingly focused on environmentally considered designs that deliver long-term performance and lasting value. Of course, the market hasn’t been without challenges. The collapse of many respected suppliers has been sad to see and required us to adapt quickly.


TTJ: WHAT HAVE BEEN VINCENT TIMBER’S PRIME PERFORMING CLADDING PRODUCTS? ES: Accoya continues to perform exceptionally well due to its dimensional stability, long service life, and strong sustainability credentials, making it a

preferred choice for both specification-led new build and high-quality refurbishment projects. Accoya’s 50-year above-ground warranty sets it apart as one of the most technically assured timber species on the market.


Our VTX preservative-treated range has also seen significant growth, driven by its versatility, consistent performance, and suitability for a wide range of applications where durability, compliance, and value are key considerations. It remains popular across residential, education, and commercial sectors.


Another strong performer is our factory- coated timber cladding, driven in particular by our exclusive partnerships with Sivalbp and Cape Cod.


Sivalbp has seen growing demand due to its consistent, pre-weathered appearance and future-proof performance. The factory- applied finish delivers uniformity, reduced on-site work, and ensured quality, helping build long-term customer confidence across new build and refurbishment projects. Cape Cod has also continued to perform well, with customers valuing its rich, long- lasting colours and the reassurance of its 15- year coating warranty. This level of durability and colour retention gives specifiers and clients confidence their cladding will continue to perform and look as intended over time.


TTJ: CAN YOU PICK OUT SOME PARTICULARLY INTERESTING PROJECTS YOU’VE SUPPLIED RECENTLY? ES: From colour-matching a car, to major public infrastructure, the projects we work on keep us on our toes!


One project we’re especially looking forward to seeing progress into its second phase is St Mary’s View, where our Sivalbp pre-weathered timber cladding has been specified. Built to exacting standards, the homes at St Mary’s View combine state-of-the-art low-energy heating systems with high- end fittings, polished concrete floors and generous, flowing living spaces. Another project that continues to spark conversation is The Black & White Building; most recently awarded the Built by Nature Global Award 2025. We were proud to supply the fire-treated tulipwood for this pioneering scheme.


The tallest fully engineered timber office building in central London, it has picked up multiple major accolades including a RIBA Award, with more undoubtedly still to come. The building makes extensive use of timber both structurally and internally, creating a workspace that is not only striking, but exceptionally low carbon. The façade’s vertical timber louvres form a secondary skin that manages solar gain, maximises natural daylight and reduces the building’s overall carbon footprint.


Another to mention would be Manhattan Loft Gardens. It’s an incredible, almost gravity-defying building and a deserved RIBA Award winner. We supplied the fire- treated Canadian Western red cedar for the three distinctive terrace spaces.


The building features sky gardens, rooftop spaces, apartments, restaurants and a hotel all brought together in one bold design. It has also achieved a BREEAM ‘Very Good’ rating, and the natural variation of the cedar helps
