Bartram Manufacturing invests in new Hundegger Turbo Drive technology

Timber frame and truss manufacturer Bartram Manufacturing has invested over £500,000 in new Hundegger production technology.

The manufacturer, which also produces engineered floor joists and is based in Sandy, Bedfordshire, invested in two Hundegger Turbo Drive cutting machines. The investment is designed to position Bartram to further expand its already successful operation, improve control over timber usage, and streamline the processing of engineered timber products supplied to builders across the region. In a twist of coincidence, MD James Bartram was the very first- person Hundegger UK’s Chris Osborne connected with when he joined Hundegger 12 years ago. “James is amused by that fact and pleased to have finally made the decision after years of careful consideration and after seeing nearly 200 Hundegger machines now operating across the UK and Ireland helped his confidence,” said Mr Osborne.

SCM readies for Rimini Open House event

Driving the future of woodworking through the integration of advanced technologies, proactive services and digital innovation is the message at SCM’s Open House event in Rimini on March 12-14. Across more than 4,000 square metres, visitors will be able to explore a wide range of machines, automated systems, software and services designed to support the production of every component of the home - from furniture to timber construction, from surface treatment to flooring, from wooden windows and doors to wood/aluminium solutions. In addition to an expanded range of SCM products and services, particular interest will also be drawn by strategic partnerships with the Group’s newest companies: Tecno Logica, focused on integrated systems and robotics, and Mecal Machinery, specialised in aluminium, PVC and light-alloy processing. The event will put the spotlight on an Integrated Service Ecosystem designed to provide companies with more efficient production, greater operational control, and continuous manufacturing uptime, thanks to technologies that transform machine- generated data into actionable support.

At the core of this modular architecture is WinMES, SCM’s Manufacturing Execution System engineered in partnership with Tecnest, a key player in production planning and supply chain management software. By integrating and interpreting real-time data, it optimizes production flows, speeds up operational decision-making, and enhances overall plant reliability. Factory intelligence is further strengthened by Smart Spindle, the advanced spindle-sensor system that enables predictive analysis and helps prevent unplanned machine downtime. To safeguard the entire ecosystem, SCM incorporates advanced Cybersecurity solutions, ensuring protection for data, processes, and infrastructure.

The Wood Protection Association (WPA) annual awards are open for entry. Four award categories cover Project of the Year, Treated Wood Champion, Treater of the Year, and Best Kept Treatment Plant.
