JUNE 2026 Ӏ COMMENT

WELCOME TO OUR DEBUT 'RESIDENT'

It never ceases to amaze me the breadth of the crane, rigging, and specialised transport world. Such diversity of incredibly-engineered specialist equipment used to move and lift, well, a diverse range of incredibly-engineered specialist equipment. What am I talking about here exactly (or have I finally lost the plot!)? Well our below the hook feature, for example, encompasses blade yokes, spreader beams, lifting points, coil and pipe lifters. Turn the page, and in part two of our look at the

offshore sector, we write about cable-laying vessels, active heave compensated cranes, nacelle hoists, offshore service cranes, and offshore installation vessels. Turn again, you can read about Mammoet’s pioneering

moves in the electric and hybrid all terrain crane sector with purchases from XCMG, Liebherr and Manitowoc. Diversity runs throughout this issue. I could go on with many more examples – but I won't

as Cranes Today has some very exciting news that I just can't keep quiet anymore... As of next month we're starting our first ever

Cranes Today 'residency' where we invite a high-profile industry figure to contribute an exclusive, regular column. The field is theirs and they will be free to write about whatever is on their mind. I'm very pleased to say the very first residency goes

to UK-based Katie Kelleher. Former crawler crane operator, and appointed person, Katie is well-known in the industry. She is technical publications and careers manager at the UK's Construction Plant-hire Association. She is also a high-profile figure on multiple social media platforms where she shares her experiences of the construction industry and publishes her insightful Tales from the Hook industry interviews. Katie champions industry apprenticeships and is a

STEM ambassador – speaking at schools and colleges to inspire young people to join the industry. She is also a member of The Worshipful Company of Constructors. Katie has many more strings to her bow and she must

be a very busy woman. How she has found time to write for us I don't know but the whole Cranes Today team is delighted to welcome her as the debut resident. What I do know is that she has some exciting subjects she'd like to tackle – so tune in next month to see what she has to say.
