CRANE REFURBISHMENT Ӏ MANITOWOC'S ENCORE PROGRAMME
cannot provide the same level of documentation or accountability, Manitowoc says, nor offer the same OEM-backed warranty that EnCORE does.
SECOND LIFE In Turkey a crane owner that has used Manitowoc’s EnCORE service is İÇDAŞ – a leading company in Turkey’s iron and steel industry. İÇDAŞ had its Grove GMK4100 all terrain crane fully refurbished by Karun, the dealer and service partner for Grove mobile cranes and Manitowoc crawler cranes in the country. The project was carried out
at Karun’s dedicated EnCORE- approved rebuild facility in Ankara for İÇDAŞ, a leading company in Turkey’s iron and steel industry. Using 100% Manitowoc-
certified parts and following EnCORE standards, Manitowoc says the overhaul will ensure reliability and long-term productivity for the crane. The refurbishment covered a
complete mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and structural rebuild. Specific tasks included full

The boom of
İÇDAŞ's crane was fully disassembled including the
telescopic cylinder and all five sections
and critical components. All hydraulic and pneumatic hoses were replaced to ensure smooth and reliable operation. The boom was fully
disassembled including the telescopic cylinder and all five boom sections. Worn components were
replaced and locking parts were inspected and updated. A new slewing bearing and a
superstructure cab were installed and major components, including planetary gears and hydraulic systems, were replaced. The crane also underwent a complete 1,000-hour maintenance service and was repainted with TÜV-certified decals. Upon completion the crane underwent a comprehensive inspection programme including load and boom extension testing. “This GMK4100 has been a dependable workhorse for İÇDAŞ for more than 17 years,” says Cihan Bektaş, after-sales manager at Karun. “Through the EnCORE programme we were able to give the crane a second life ensuring it continues to deliver productive and reliable performance.”
ENCORE EXPANSION Building on the success of this project Karun is preparing its next EnCORE refurbishment: a Grove RT550E rough terrain. It plans to expand EnCORE activities to additional Grove mobile cranes and Manitowoc crawler cranes, too. “At Manitowoc we take pride in seeing our cranes restored through EnCORE to the standards they were originally engineered to meet,” says Nate Pears, global EnCORE director, Manitowoc. “Projects like this highlight the value of combining factory expertise with the capabilities of trusted local partners like Karun.” For crane owners, the decision
to remanufacture ultimately comes down to return on investment. Manitowoc believes that, via its
EnCORE programme, those returns are strong. The expenditure is cost-effective and, once the work is completed, utilisation is higher thanks to improved reliability while maintenance costs are reduced with new components. Ultimately, the crane could enjoy an extended asset life, strengthening the balance sheet and, when it’s time to sell, the residual value is higher.
