and transport,” says Peter van Oostrom, global projects asset director at Mammoet. “Our purchase of the LTM
1150-5.4E is the next step in this journey, whereby we will help our customers to drive down project emissions while supporting the growth of energy and infrastructure. Compared to the LTC1050-3.1E, the new 150-tonne capacity crane has a battery pack, which gives us significantly more flexibility." With the battery power alone the crane can operate autonomously for up to four hours. If a low power connection is available at the jobsite the crane can be plugged in, with the battery serving as a buffer.
A modern CCS plug can be used
for fast charging at up to 80 kW. Liebherr says that Mammoet
analysed the fuel consumption data of cranes of this capacity and

examined what this would mean for the use of this hybrid crane. The results were positive.
"We examined a random two-week period in the north and south of the Netherlands and estimate that we can operate this crane fully electrically with the battery pack nine days out of ten,” said van Oostrom.
GMK5150L-1E PLUG-IN HYBRID Mammoet’s most recent addition to its electric/hybrid all terrain fleet has been the purchase of a Grove GMK5150L-1e Plug-in Hybrid. This, again, was a world’s first. The crane was announced at Bauma 2025, although it was its sister, the GMK5150XLe, that was displayed there. Read the launch story here:
https://shorturl.at/yFUhW Built by Manitowoc in Wilhelmshaven, Germany, the five- axle, 150-tonne capacity crane has a seven-section, 60 metre boom.
It has a charge-while-driving’
feature for its 160 kWh battery pack. This allows the battery to be recharged by a 163 kW on- board generator while travelling to and from the job site, enhancing operational flexibility. Once at the jobsite the crane can then operate fully independently without relying on grid charging. “Charging facilities can be unavailable,” explains Eelco de Leeuw, operations manager at Mammoet. “That is why we are delighted to receive a Plug-in Hybrid all-terrain crane that can charge while driving and has its own on-board generator. "Even without electricity at the
jobsite, the GMK5150L-1e allows us to reliably complete our projects.” The battery capacity was
precisely sized based on a full job profile analysis to ensure full
