At age 23, Farhad Mehmood transformed Bruntsfield Pharmacy from a struggling ex-Lloyds branch into a thriving community healthcare hub. His initiatives include introducing rapid finger-prick cholesterol and HbA1C tests, launching digital services and expanding NHS and private care options such as weight loss support, travel vaccinations and earwax removal. He has also strengthened ties with local healthcare providers, boosting referrals and patient confidence. By improving operational efficiency, increasing service accessibility and enhancing patient trust, Farhad has reshaped the perception of what a modern community pharmacy can achieve.
SOENAID ANDERSON GATEHOUSE PHARMACY, GATEHOUSE OF FLEET, DUMFRIES & GALLOWAY
Soenaid Anderson has revitalised Gatehouse Pharmacy, saving it from closure and turning it into a vital rural healthcare hub. She overcame significant challenges to secure funding, safeguard local jobs and introduce innovative services, including a diabetic hub, a treatment pod for podiatrists and osteopaths and an earwax removal clinic. Her commitment to community health, particularly diabetes support, stems from personal experience and she has raised substantial funds for JDRF (a juvenile diabetes research charity). Through her clinical leadership and business acumen, she has demonstrated the indispensable role of independent community pharmacies in delivering essential healthcare services.
