he Canadian self-storage industry was not alone in facing the chal- lenges of COVID in 2021. The far-reaching effects of the pandemic continued to plague every nation around the globe. For Canada


in particular, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), there have been 2,979,832 confirmed cases of COVID, with 33,192 deaths be- tween Jan. 3, 2020, and Jan. 27, 2022.


But what has the actual impact been to the storage market in Canada? This topic is explored in detail in this issue’s cover story, beginning


on page 6. From looking at the trends as of year-end and what to expect in 2022, to a breakdown of the impact by province, this article will give you candid facts and opinions by some of Canada’s self-storage opera- tors. In addition, it offers some insight as to what we need to keep an eye on in 2022.


Also, we are proud to present a new Facility Spotlight column that will


feature a facility in Canada in every edition of Self-Storage Canada. In this issue, starting on page 11, we feature Vaultra Self Storage’s Castle- field location—an amazing facility indeed.
