Empowering Employees

Aberdeen Management Gives Back With Charity Storage

By Katie Tompulis L

ocally owned and operated Ari- zona Self Storage knows that tremendous value and long-term

benefit can come from empowering your employees. Arizona Self Stor- age’s gold standard customer service, a signature at their self-storage prop- erties, is a direct reflection of the ownership and pride their employees take in their work.

“I really enjoy working in a busi-

ness that is locally owned and operat- ed and connected to the communities we serve,” says Kim Ryan of Aber- deen Management and Development, which manages all Arizona Self Stor- age-branded facilities. With 17 years of experience in the self-storage in- dustry, Ryan recognizes that serving your community and customers goes hand-in-hand with how you treat your employees. “Being a small boutique- style company allows us to be a bit more nimble in the way we operate, adapt, and change, if necessary to provide the service our customers

desire. We have an outstanding team of managers that make this possible.”

At Arizona Self Storage, property

managers are the face of the company. “I always look at us as the support to them versus the other way around,” quips Ryan. “We empower our manag- ers to really take charge of their own properties.”

Ryan knows that standing out in the

self-storage industry is hard, but she believes her managers are key. “You are selling space, and the units look the same wherever you go,” she says. “What sets us apart is that we believe in peo- ple, and we support our managers. As a result, our managers provide the best customer service in the industry be- cause they are happy with what they do. Our customers often tell us that our cus- tomer service goes above and beyond.”

given that self-storage needs are often driven by stressful, life-changing events such as death, divorce, and moves. “We give a personalized touch while finding ways to create a solution for our custom- ers during a difficult time,” says Ryan. “It really is a self-storage solution; we are solving life’s problems and trying to guide customers appropriately for their needs. Our managers are professional storage consultants and that comes with years of experience in the industry. We earn a lot of customer referrals, which is the best complement we can receive.”

As a company, Arizona Self Stor-

age has always believed in giving back to strengthen communities through- out Arizona. Over the years, they’ve contributed to many local non-profits, schools, and charitable organizations. In 2011, when Charity Storage was found- ed, Ryan knew it was the right fit for their business. “It is a fantastic way to give back as a company,” she says. “We were excited about the opportunity and jumped on it very early. It was one of
