FACILITY SPOTLIGHT The other option is to just store one or a few items.
“If they’re storing their golf clubs with us, for exam- ple,” says Gunasingham, “we give them the option to them to pick those items up at the office. We wanted to provide them flexibility and convenience.”
There are two main differences between the Center-
field door-to-door service and the competition. “Most of them don’t tell you where your stuff is stored,” says Gunasingham. “Our customers know exactly where their items are stored, and we also don’t require the 24-hour notice to retrieve their items.”
A Familiar Path The Centerfield location has followed the same market- ing path as most self-storage companies. The digital and high-tech marketing plan is handled through the Vaul- tra corporate offices, while managers and staff handle grassroots efforts such as passing out fliers and building relationships with residents, multi-family housing man- agers, and businesses.
“We ramped up marketing a little before the Novem- ber 2020 opening,” says Durcharme. As a result of a
great need for record storage in the downtown area, the facility dedicated 30,000 square feet solely to the storage of documents and records.
The biggest challenge goes with managing and marketing such a
large facility. “It’s the second-largest site in Ontario, so the biggest challenge is just filling up such a large facility and everything that goes with that,” Durcharme says. “There is a lot of competition in Toronto, but there are a lot of customers willing to pay more for so many services.”
And the site’s extras are proving to be powerful selling points.
According to Gunasingham, the facility is currently 25 percent occupied and on schedule for lease-up, which is projected to be in 2024.
