MOVING FORWARD!
of this platform and many, many hours of crash-course learning, the CSSA was pleased to offer many online events. In 2021, the Young Leaders Council (YLC) had several online events, with prominent speakers such as Mike Burnam, CEO of StorageMart; Steven Scott, CEO of Storage Vault Canada; and Robert Madsen, president of U-Lock Group. We were thrilled to have these amazing mentors speak to the future leaders in self-storage, and the group truly gained a great deal of knowledge from each of them. The Canadian Self Storage Association Young Leaders Council was supported by Janus Interna- tional, SmartStop Self Storage, and Tripemco Insurance. Thank you so very much to these generous sponsors for helping this “young” group out in 2021!
Moving forward
into 2022, our hope is to all be together again in person, with our first event planned
for June 2022 in Vancouver, B.C., and then again in October 2022 in Toronto, Ont.
A highlight of 2021, in the face of the COVID craziness,
I am pleased to announce that our bride of the previous “Almost Wedding” story in the October 2020 issue of Self- Storage Canada, and the chair of the CSSA Young Leader’s Council, Cynthia Poulin, finally became Mrs. Luke Stre- berg. No, this time they did not marry at a storage facil- ity, but it truly was a wonderful and very beautiful day. I was lucky enough to be a part of this special time for them as they graciously live streamed the whole wed- ding to include those who could not be there in person due to the pandemic restrictions. Congratulation Cynthia and Luke!
Obviously, virtual conferences and special presenta-
tions were the “norm” in 2021. With a very timely and informative presentation and Q & A with Dan Kelly, presi- dent of the Canadian Federation of Independent Busi- ness (CFIB), and the CSSA National Virtual Conferences in November of 2020, June 2021, and the most recent event in November 2021, we have to admit that no one really knew for sure how successful these online events would actually be. So, without any comparisons to our past “live” events, and with a kind of “reinventing the wheel” attitude, we moved forward in this new direction as there was truly a need to connect with our peers and friends in the industry, even if it involved a screen and no travel. Each event was better than the last, with more sponsors, attendees, and uninhibited conversations! How

exciting it was to see everyone, meet new people, and learn so much about our industry. It almost felt like we were all in the same room together again!
CSSA In 2022 Moving forward into 2022, our hope is to all be together again in person, with our first event planned for June 2022 in Vancouver, B.C., and then again in October 2022 in To- ronto, Ont. Our 2022 Calendar of events is as follows:

that the CSSA OCC may be offered online again at least once in 2022. Please be sure to visit us at
www.cssa.ca for more information and additional upcoming events.
Another way that many of us have been keeping in touch
is with the addition of the Canadian Self Storage Association Community page on Facebook. Please feel free to join this group and carry on with the great conversations!
So, everyone, let’s all keep our fingers crossed and do our
parts to help to end this pandemic sooner rather than later so that all of this can happen this year and we can once again shake hands, hug one another, and maybe even raise a glass or two together! I am looking forward to seeing you all again this year in person!
Happy New Year! Wishing you all a fantastic and prosper- ous 2022!
