average occupancy level has grown by a total of almost six percentage points. In the South Atlantic region, average self-storage occupancy


levels grew more than 3 percent between the first and second quarters of 2012, reaching an occupancy level of 83.8 percent. The following year, the region posted a 2.9 percent occupancy gain between Q1 and Q2 2013, bringing the region’s average oc- cupancy rate to 86.9 percent. Looking at the current year, the re- gion realized a significant increase in occupancy levels between the first and second quarters of 2014. During that time period, occupancy increased 2.4 percent, raising the area’s average occupancy rate to 88.3 percent. Moving to the West, occupancy rates in this region have re-


mained fairly level historically. The West reported its most sig- nificant gain of the past several years during the current quarter, growing 2.6 percent between the first and second quarters of 2014 to 88.7 percent. This occupancy growth is especially signifi- cant because it is preceded by three months of either negative
