MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS DAY
TALK TO US, SAMARITANS
Samaritans Awareness Day, 24 July, serves as a reminder of the critical support provided by Samaritans to those in emotional distress. At the heart of this day is the “Talk To Us” campaign, a beacon of hope and solidarity that seeks to amplify Samaritans’ vital mission: to alleviate feelings of isolation and despair by offering a compassionate ear and non- judgmental support. Central to the “Talk To Us” campaign is the encouragement of open dialogue about mental health and emotional wellbeing. Through a variety of channels, including social media, public events, and partnerships with other organisations, Samaritans shines a light on the importance of reaching out for help and the transformative power of human connection. By fostering conversations and breaking down stigmas surrounding mental health struggles, the campaign creates a safe space for individuals to share
their experiences and seek support without fear of stigma or discrimination. Samaritans’ confidential helpline,

need. Whether grappling with feelings of loneliness, depression, anxiety, or contemplating suicide, individuals are met with empathy and understanding from trained volunteers who provide emotional support without judgment or agenda. Talk To Us underscores the importance of community and collective responsibility in supporting mental health and suicide prevention efforts. Through partnerships
with schools, workplaces, and local communities, Samaritans fosters a culture of caring and empathy, equipping individuals with the tools and resources to recognise signs of distress and intervene effectively. Beyond raising awareness, the “Talk To Us” campaign empowers individuals to take action and make a difference in the lives of others. By promoting active listening, empathy, and compassion, Samaritans encourages everyone to play a role in creating a world where mental health is prioritised,
and no one suffers in silence. If you fear someone you know is struggling but cannot find the words to open a conversation with them, the resources gathered under the Supporting Someone Else section of our AskTwice campaign pages has advice and guidance to make these difficult conversations less scary.
