HANNAH’S HALF MARATHON HOPES
Detective Sergeant Hannah Brown of Kent Police is paying back the kindness and support that was shown to her by running the London Landmarks Half Marathon to raise money for Flint House. Hannah, who followed her childhood dream when she joined Kent Police, has a personal connection with Flint House, which helped her return to competitive archery following a shoulder injury and surgery. Hannah says: “I’ve done archery for
35 years and I shot for Great Britain. The treatment I received at Flint House got me back to being able to shoot for England. Archery is my release from work, and I can now do it again at a decent level. “I have been to Flint House a number of times now, both for the physio course and the mental health course,” she says. “On my last visit, I decided to start the Couch to 5k programme while I was getting my shoulder treated. I ran the 5k programme throughout lockdown, but when I had finished it, I decided to do something else, so I joined a virtual running club. “I did the virtual London Marathon down on Herne Bay seafront a while back, even though it took me most of the day! I’m not a natural runner, so this is all a challenge for me,” Hannah continues. “After that though, I felt I had kind of lost my way a little bit as I didn’t have a goal anymore. I kept trying to get out running and entered the London Landmarks Half Marathon ballot, but didn’t get a spot. I was a bit gutted, but then saw a post by Flint House saying they had spaces available and to email in if you wanted to take part so I immediately did and that was that.

“To me, Flint House is a charity close to my heart – it really means something to me. There are thousands and thousands of charities out there, but this is the one where I’ve actually had help for myself, and have a personal connection to them. I have been there and they have really helped me through some tough times and got me fixed after injuries and surgery. “I wouldn’t be where I am now if it wasn’t
for Flint House. There’s a chance that I wouldn’t be here at all. The programmes they’ve got are phenomenal. This is my way of paying them back, my way of showing my appreciation.”
