supervisors are ex-police and military personnel, “so they understand the complexities of what our officers face, and there is no need to explain their role, simplifying that part of the process.” Looking back at how the WSP program has been received internally and the data collected, Belinda continues: “Our provider presented to the PFEW National Council, where we had 160 branch board chairs and secretaries around the country in attendance. They were presented with case studies and advised of open cases. The event was impactful and received positive sentiment around the work conducted.”

The WSP has provided information to help other areas within policing. For

“Being under investigation can cause the officer not to return to work, sometimes for up to six to eight months, which can exacerbate the problem,” says Belinda. “The wellbeing of the officer is undoubtedly affected when the officer is unable to get back into a work routine.”
