A new law paves the way to better protect trained police drivers under the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Act
New regulations, effective from 30 November 2022, set out the prescribed training that will in effect give trained police drivers the better protection in law afforded under the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Act. Tim has worked closely with Federation
branches across England and Wales to ensure officers are aware of their own obligations under the new legislation. He has given presentations at branch meetings explaining the impact of the legal changes and is asking Fed reps to encourage members to only drive if they are “in ticket” and to read a frequently-asked- questions document
giving guidance on the new regulations. Statutory instrument 1112 sets out the prescribed training that gives trained police drivers the protections afforded to them under the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Act 2022. “These regs affect all officers trained
