THE UK’S FIRST WIRELESS ELECTRIC TAXI CHARGING RANK OPENS AT NOTTINGHAM STATION
The UK’s first wireless electric taxi charging rank has opened outside Nottingham’s railway station as part of a trial. Nine hackney cabs have been adapted so they charge up when parked in the rank. The aim of the project is to cut pollution by encouraging taxi drivers to switch to electric cabs. It has been paid for with £930,000 from the government’s Wireless Charging of Electric Taxis (WiCET) scheme. Taxi drivers can start charging without leaving their
vehicle simply by driving over a pad built into the road. Nottingham City Council said 19 drivers have so far volunteered to test the electric cabs helping to
identify pros and cons of the new technology and iron out problems. The initiative has been led by the Cllr Audra Wynter, the city council’s portfolio holder for highways, transport and parks, said: “I’m delighted to see Nottingham’s UK-leading wireless taxis hit the streets. This amazing new technology will make it easy and convenient for taxi drivers to charge their vehicles on-street between passengers and make a big difference in local air quality.”
BP PULSE SIGNS ADDISON LEE FLEET TO ITS PUBLIC CHARGING NETWORK
Charging infrastructure supplier, bp pulse, has teamed up with Addison Lee, to give Addison Lee’s EV fleet enhanced access to over 3,000 ultra-fast and rapid EV charge points across bp pulse’s public charging network. The agreement includes access for the firm’s drivers to bp pulse’s EV Fleet Charging Hubs on Park Lane, which has 22 rapid charge (50kW) points and Gatwick airport which
has six ultra-fast charge points (150kW) and eight rapid charge points (50kW). Akira Kirton, CEO, bp pulse UK, said: “We’re delighted to be supporting Addison Lee in its transition to an all-electric fleet. “Relationships like this, together with our plans to open several more fleet charging hubs across the City and Greater London, will facilitate more electric journeys
and help accelerate the electric transformation of fleets.” Addison Lee CEO, Liam Griffin, said: “Access to charging infra-structure continues to be the number one challenge for drivers switching to EVs. Signing up with bp pulse provides Addison Lee partner drivers access to its charging network in London – allowing us to continue leading the transition to zero emissions vehicles.”
