BELFAST CABBIE SUSTAINS FACE, THROAT AND NECK INJURIES DURING TERRIFYING ORDEAL


A taxi driver was assaulted in East Belfast in the early hours of

February. The cabbie picked up a man in the Heatherbell Street area around 2.50am but stopped the vehicle when he said he had no money to pay the fare. The man then assaulted the cabbie and stole £700 in takings and personal belongings. Det Sgt Young said: “This was a


terrifying ordeal, and the driver sustained injuries to his face, throat and neck.” The cabbie who described being choked unconscious and robbed, has since said that he has been “haunted” by the attack that left him “too frightened to go out”. The cabbie said the blood vessels in his face and eyes burst as his


wind-pipe was being crushed. He said swelling in his mouth and tongue meant he couldn’t eat solid food and he’s been unable to sleep without imagining being choked. Jamie Love, 22, faces charges of robbery, attempted choking with intent, criminal damage, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and making threats to kill.


LANARKSHIRE TAXI DRIVER LEFT WITH FRACTURED JAW AFTER ATTACK BY TEENAGER


A taxi driver was attacked and badly injured after he squared up to boys who had pelted his vehicle with snowballs. David Dalgleish suffered fractures to his nose and jaw when he was punched and kicked by a 16-year-old. Hamilton Sheriff Court was shown footage of the attack that was captured on the cabbie’s dashcam. The teenager, now 17, admitted assaulting Mr Dalgeish to his


severe injury in Bothwell, on January 7 last year. Rebecca Clark, prosecuting, said the incident happened about 3.15pm. The driver stopped his taxi when it was struck by a snowball thrown from a group of boys. As he pulled up, a second one hit the car. Ms Clark told the court: “The driver got out and approached the boys in an aggressive manner. He squared up to the accused who


BELFAST CABBIE THREATENED AND ROBBED


A man has been remanded into custody, charged with robbing a taxi driver in North Belfast. Daniel Simpson, 29, is accused of seizing the victim’s mobile phone valued at £500 after the cabbie had asked for an upfront payment and bank cards were used in an attempt to make payment but were declined. Simpson was arrested by police investigating the incident early on Sunday morning, 12 February. He appeared at Belfast Magistrates’ Court to face charges of robbery, fraud by false representation and making off without paying for the £11 cab fare. Simpson was remanded in custody until March 14

The accused proceeded to punch and kick him with force on the face while the driver was on the ground until witnesses, including the boy’s mother, intervened. Sheriff Linda Nicolson deferred sentence for background reports.


MAN TRIED TO ABDUCT CABBIE IN PAISLEY


A man has allegedly tried to abduct a taxi driver in Paisley. The passenger began acting aggressively as the cab was travelling along Glasgow Road in Paisley at around 10pm on 16 February. Police also claim the suspect produced a knife. The victim, who managed to stop and get out of the vehicle, was then allegedly followed by the man on foot. Police said the cabbie soon returned to his vehicle and drove off. The suspect was later traced and has been charged with attempted abduction, breach of the peace and possession of a knife and is due to appear at Paisley Sheriff Court.
