32 MONTHS’ JAIL FOR NOTTINGHAM THUG WHO LAUNCHED VICIOUS ATTACK ON CABBIE

Nottinghamshire Police has released dashcam footage of a savage attack on an innocent cabbie which has landed the thug in jail. The driver was battered by a drunk and violent passenger and was left requiring urgent medical attention after being pushed from the car as it was moving. He had been on a shift on Saturday 17 September 2022 in Arnold, when he was approached by a man and woman asking to be taken home. The victim noticed the man, Reuben Commons, was drunk but despite this he agreed to take them and asked for them both to get into the back seats. Before Commons even got into the cab he attempted to open to

driver’s door and sit on his lap. After being told to move he got into the front passenger seat and became hostile, shouting directions at the driver. Just after 1.20am things began to turn violent after the taxi driver asked for the fare upfront, causing 25-year-old Commons to call him a ‘tramp’ and repeatedly threaten him with violence. He threw a plastic bottle full of water over the driver which hit him on the head causing the victim to try and stop the car Commons then began to kick and punch the victim over and over.

During the struggle, Commons pushed the victim out of the car while it was still moving. He then continued to attack the victim on the road, kicking him to the head causing him to

lose con-

sciousness before stealing the car in an attempt to get away but only managed to drive around 50 yards before getting out and letting it crash into a parked car. Commons, from Nottingham, appeared at Nottingham Crown Court on 3 February, after pleading guilty to wounding or inflicting GBH and aggravated vehicle taking and property damage. He was jailed for a total of 32 months and also ordered to pay £187 to the victim.

DANGEROUS DRIVER JAILED FOR 32 WEEKS OVER SHOCKING CRASH INTO TELFORD TAXI

A judge has jailed a disqualified driver over a high-speed crash on a residential street. Rees McPherson, 32, from Telford, was already banned from driving when he smashed his BMW into the back of a taxi in Telford. Shrewsbury Crown Court was told police estimated McPherson was travelling over 50mph in a 30mph zone when he hit the car, at around 6.45pm on June 15, 2021. Shocking video shown to the court showed the taxi, which was almost at a stop, indicating to turn right, being launched across the road, narrowly missing two pedestrians, and leaving the cabbie with back and neck injuries. McPherson’s car veered into the

drive of a house, smashing into several parked cars, and narrowly missing a man on his driveway. McPherson and three others jumped out of the car and ran away. McPherson gave a no- comment interview after being arrested, but his DNA was found on the airbag. He had admitted one charge of dangerous driving and another of driving while disqualified. In terms of damage; one car was written-off, £15,455 of repairs were needed for the taxi, £1,390 for another car, and £1,782 for another. Sentencing, Judge Peter Barrie said: “It is extraordinary that the taxi driver was not injured. A householder on the drive you

crashed onto was coming out, it was a miracle he was not injured. “It was highly dangerous driving in an area where you have people, in particular pedestrians, who were at risk of catastrophic injury, it is a miracle neither of them sustained any serious injury.” “The the aftermath of this was not to stop and see how the taxi driver was, but to flee the scene. He continued: “Your behaviour afterwards was appalling. You caused very substantial property damage.” Judge Barrie jailed McPherson for 32 weeks and disqualified him from driving for two years. He will also have to take an extended test to regain his licence.
