A Nottingham taxi driv- er has had his takings stolen by a robber who threatened him with a knife.

According to the Derby Telegraph, the cabbie had picked up a passenger from the taxi rank in the Market Place, in Long Eaton, at 9pm on Sunday, April 3.

When the taxi was halfway along Briar Gate the man leaned forward, put a knife to the taxi driver’s throat and demanded money.

The 53 year old driver gave him some cash and his phone but suf- fered a “slight cut” to

The robber was white, in his mid-20s, about 6ft and slim. He had short black hair, a thin oval face and was wearing a light grey hoody.

Anyone who has infor- mation about the robbery should call police on 0345 123 3333 or Crimestop- pers, on 0800 555 111.

A teenager has admit- ted biting part of a taxi driver’s ear off during a vicious attack. Luke Donner, 17, from Immingham, pleaded guilty to causing griev- ous bodily harm with intent to Trevor Blyth, 51, on February 7. Despite surgeons’ best efforts to reattach the section of ear Donner bit off, it was rejected by Mr Blyth’s body and had to be removed. Now the driver has got to make the agonising decision of whether to leave his ear as it is or undergo a ten-hour

The attack happened just days after the Wokingham Taxi Asso- ciation was officially launched to help raise awareness of the prob- lems facing drivers in the town, including violence and abuse from customers. The victim of the attack, who is chair- man of the association and has been racially abused by fares before, was left with injuries to his face. Faisal Ali Fateh was attacked at around

Mr Fateh, 32, praised Bracknell CID for their support following the attack, and said he feared he would die during the attack and was sure he would have done had anoth- er taxi driver from the Bracknell area not happened to stop to help.

He told the Crow- thorne Times: “I have bruising to my face, bruising to my neck and I had to have stitches in my lip. I can’t eat anything because of the pain and I can’t see proper- ly. This is very very

Muhammad Sohaib Arshad, secretary of the Taxi Association, said other drivers operating in Woking- ham have been left angry at the violent assault. The Wokingham Taxi Association is calling for better CCTV to be installed in the town centre, particularly around taxi ranks. The Taxi Association’s committee was offi- cially launched to help lobby Wokingham Borough Council and police over issues affecting drivers, including licensing decisions the associa- tion says are hitting drivers in the pocket.

A Falmouth taxi driver has said he is giving up the job after only 18 months following a vicious assault by a passenger. He now has difficulty eating, drink- ing and speaking and is in contstant pain. The attack in the early hours of a recent Sun- day left Jason Hill needing a dozen stitch- es to a split lip after he was knocked to the ground with a single punch by a drunken

man who got out of his taxi without paying. Police are now eager to trace the man, or a couple who helped the offender into the taxi on the Moor, near the water fountain. According to the West Briton, the couple put the man into the silver Mercedes C220 taxi at 1.30am and gave Mr Hill the man’s car keys, saying they were worried he would try to drive home.

He assured Mr Hill he had the fare, but on approaching Golden- bank he asked him to stop the car near the junction of Boscundle Avenue and Penhale Road and got out run- ning off in the direction of Penhale Road. The man was white, aged 20 to 25 and slim, with short black hair and dark clothing. Anyone with informa- tion can phone on 0845 2777444.
