TERROR... YOB’S RIFLE ATTACK ON LEYLAND CABBIE
Former soldier, Darren Storey, 46, served in Bosnia and the first Gulf War but he was just inches from seri- ous injury after gun-toting yobs fired an air rifle at his taxi as he drove past Worden Park, in Leyland. The blast shattered a
hole in the back of the 16-seater cab, but for- tunately missed the dad of three. Minutes earlier, he had just dropped off 12 people, including children. He told the Lancashire Evening Post: “When I realised it was a bullet hole, I started shaking.
You never expect it to happen as a taxi driver in Leyland.”
He heard a loud crack at the back of his taxi - thinking yobs had thrown eggs - and pulled over to call the police. Four youths were seen fleeing into the woods in the park.
NORTH TYNESIDE CABBIE RELIVES KNIFE ATTACK
Cabbie Ashley Arnold feared for his life after being attacked by two men he picked up from Bishop Rock Drive, Longbenton, in North Tyneside, on a recent Saturday morning. According to the New- castle upon Tyne Evening Chronicle, he pulled into a bus stop in West Bailey, Killing- worth, and when the
car came to a halt, one of the men lunged for- ward and rained blows down on his head. Ashley desperately fought for freedom as one of his passengers threatened to plunge a knife into his neck. He opened the door of the taxi to jump out, but as he did so the car began to move forward and he was dragged
along the pavement before the vehicle careered into a lamp- post, causing severe damage to the front. The 31-year-old, from Ponteland, who works for City Dell Taxis, in Killingworth, has vowed he will never work as a taxi driver again. Anyone with information should contact police on 03456 043 043.

A cab driver who is part of the Cab Safe scheme in Bexley- heath is recovering at home after a vicious beating by one of his customers.

Sevarajah Kanthar- uban, from Broad- way Express Cabs, is now eating through a straw after picking up a group of young peo- ple from a party. Mr Kantharuban, 32, said he counts himself lucky to be alive after hearing his passen- gers planning to stab him in the neck during the journey from Dart- ford to Eltham.
According to the Bex- ley News Shopper, when Mr Kantharuban collected his passen-
gers, two girls were followed by three youths who were obvi- ously drunk.
He dropped one cou- ple in North Cray, leaving a girl and two youths in the back of the car. When they got to Eltham, Mr Kan- tharuban had to get out of the cab to move the extra seat so his pas- sengers could get out. One of the passengers punched him in the face, before they walked off without paying.
Mr Kantharuban man- aged to get back in his cab and press the panic button.
He was taken to hospi- tal where he waited four hours to be X-
rayed. The X-rays revealed his jaw bone has been broken in half at the front and had suffered another break at the side. He had to make his own way to King’s Col- lege Hospital for emergency surgery after being told he would have to wait another three hours for an ambulance. He has had steel plates inserted into his jawbone and his jaws wired shut to help heal the side fracture. Now he is looking for another job. A 20-year-old man from Welling is current- ly on police bail after being arrested on sus- picion of causing GBH.
PHTM JULY 2011 VICIOUS ATTACK ON BARRY DRIVER
A taxi firm boss has spoken out after a late- night attack in Barry left one of his drivers in hospital for nine days. Mohammed Sumon, 28, was hospitalised after an alleged attack by three men as he drove them to Barry at around 1.30am on Sat- urday, May 28.
Iqbal Miah, managing director of 1st Line Taxis Ltd, told the
Barry and District News: “The whole taxi work force has been deeply shocked and saddened by this, and want justice on behalf of Mr Sumon.”
The alleged incident happened on Ffordd y Mileniwm, near Mor- risons, after the driver was asked to stop the car. He later told col- leagues that the passengers had been
arguing with him about the route he had chosen.
The disagreement escalated, and the alleged assault then occurred. Mr Sumon managed to hit his cab’s panic button, alerting colleagues. Three males, aged 16, 21 and 22, have been arrested on suspicion of assault, and rel- eased on police bail.
BRADFORD CABBIE ROBBED AND CAR BURNED
A taxi driver was treat- ed in hospital after he was beaten up and his cab stolen in a brutal robbery. Father of three Amjid Nadeem, 41, was kicked in the head and body and hit with a stick during the violent incident.
Premier Cars boss, Wajid Jahangir, said the robbers had used un- necessary violence on his driver who could have killed him.

ford Telegraph and Argus, Mr Nadeem picked up a fare in Ravenscliffe, Bradford, shortly after 11pm on Tuesday 14 June and took a group of young men to Rowantree Drive in Thorpe Edge. The driver was forced to hand over the keys to his silver Peugeot 407. He tried to walk away when he was set upon and repeatedly kicked and hit over the head with a wooden stick. The robbers drove off
in his vehicle, which was found burned out in nearby Prospect Street four hours later. DI John Mountain, of Airedale and North Bradford CID, con- firmed police were investigating an inci- dent of robbery and appealed for witness- es to come forward.
