BOGUS BOGNOR TAXI DRIVER FINED BY MAGISTRATES
A Bognor Regis bogus taxi driver has been ordered to pay more than £2,000 in fines and court costs. Krzysztof Pietruszews- ki was convicted in his absence at Worthing Magistrates’ Court of driving a licensed vehicle as a hackney carriage driver without holding the required licence. According to the Bognor Regis Observ- er, Pietruszewski, 28, was caught acting as a taxi driver in Arun in July after a member of the public reported seeing him driving a licensed taxi around the town. Pietruszewski
had applied to the council
for a licence but had failed to provide all the relevant documents required of him for a hackney carriage dri- ver’s licence to be granted. This included paper- work for a CRB disclosure to be car- ried out. Magistrates fined him £600 and ordered him to pay £1,717 in court costs. He failed to appear at court and had offered no plea or mitigation to the charges. Arun District Council’s cabinet member, Cllr Paul Dendle, who has responsibility
for
licensing, said: “The council works hard with the taxi trade to
maintain good stan- dards of safety and protection of the cus- tomers. “We will continue to work hard to ensure that dangerous and irresponsible behav- iour does not threaten either the public or, indeed,
and law abiding taxi professionals who provide a good serv- ice to the community and will prosecute people who we find to be breaking the law.” Pietruszewski was convicted in his absence on December 6, 2011. He was given six weeks to ask for the case to be re- heard but failed to do this.
WOMAN ASSAULTED BY RUSHDEN MAN CLAIMING TO BE CABBIE
A bogus taxi driver sexually assaulted a woman from Rushden who was desperate to get home after a fes- tive night out. The victim had lost her handbag on the Christmas Eve night out and a ‘taxi driver’ who initially offered her a lift went on to physically and sexual- ly assault her. Police officers are now appealing for a pair of kind strangers who helped the woman prior to the attack. The woman had been for an evening out with a friend in the Embassy club in Bed- ford, but
they had
become separated. The 30-year-old victim from Rushden did not have her handbag, phone or money. The two kind men, believed to have also been in the Embassy club, gave her a lift to the station in their sil- ver coloured car - possibly a Vauxhall

Astra or Corsa - and also said they had called her a taxi to get her home to Rushden. They then left to go home themselves. Shortly afterwards a dark coloured BMW 4x4 drew up next to her and she opened the door and asked if he was the taxi she was expecting. When the driver said he was, the woman got in and they set off north up the A6. Unfor- tunately, he was not a taxi driver at all, but an opportunist who had seen a chance to take advantage of her. He stopped in the layby on the side of the A6 at Souldrop, of- fered to waive her fare in return for sex and when she refused, he trapped her in the car and physically and sexually assaulted her. She was left with bruises and had some of her hair pulled out. Eventually the woman was able to persuade
him to leave her alone and drop her off at her home, where her friend was waiting for her. The man is described as Asian, slim to medi- um build, about 5ft 4ins tall and aged around 34 to 36 years old with a goatee beard and moustache. He was wearing jeans and a black jacket with blue lines on it. The assault is being investigated by Bed- fordshire Police and the team would like to hear from anyone with information about this incident. DC Gemma Ebberson told the Northants Evening Telegraph: “We would like to hear from the two young men in the silver car who helped the woman by taking her to the station and calling the cab - it might be they have unwittingly seen something that could help us find out who assaulted this woman.”
