It’s interesting to note that, since our January 2012 review issue which brought together the summary of roadside enforcement exercises that had been reported in PHTM during 2011, there have been that many reports of additional Swoops over the fes- tive period and just prior, we don’t have room to put in all the news items about each area. This means one thing generally:
there must be a lot more
Swooping going on around the country. So we decided to do a mini-summary chart, similar to our Review summary, but this one below does not duplicate any of those figures from the Review; these are all new reports of swoop exercises that we’ve received since having compiled the January review issue. Whilst it would not be fair to hand out Winner and Rust Bucket awards so early in the year, we would highlight the fact that there are three areas, namely West Fife, (our own) Bury and Hartle- pool, where all the vehicles pulled over for inspection passed muster. On the other hand, frowns all round in Derby, Coventry and Swansea, where the failure rate in those areas exceeded the fifty per cent mark. Could do better! as they used to say on one’s report card. We would ask PHTM readers to reflect on the increasing number of swoops being conducted around the UK, and bear them in mind the next time an attack is aimed at one’s local authority for lack of enforcement.
