Scotland’s Libraries – Homes of Scotland’s stories

CILIPS Conference 2022 made a welcome return as a hybrid event earlier this year - giving delegates the chance to meet in person, and allowing speakers from around the world to join in. CILIPS’ Kirsten McQuarrie takes us through the highlights.

OVER 150 delegates joined CILIP Scotland for two days of inspiration and innovation as our President and National Librarian Amina Shah hosted – via the magic of hybrid technology! – the first in-person CILIPS conference for three years.

Reinforcing this sense of our profession’s vital importance, CILIP President Kate Robinson then took to the stage to reflect on all the ways in which We Are CILIP is working for librarians and information professionals in Scotland. From championing evidence-based practice to celebrating Green Libraries and much more, this energising keynote set the scene for our first parallel sessions: including an inspiring sustainability panel discussion, the power of virtual study sessions and building up the school library post-pan- demic through collaboration, connections

More was soon in store for delegates with timely sessions that reflected both the conference theme and the fact that 2022 marks Scotland’s Year of Stories: exploring storytelling, misinformation and how to drive social justice through reading. Post-lunch, we were feeling playful with Fun Palaces, empowered by #WINspira- tion: the latest in CILIPS’ library feminism series – supported further by a Scottish Suf-
