There have also been major changes to the series’ core monster battles. Random fi ghts have been ditched entirely, with Let’s Go! taking its cues from mobile phenomenon Pokémon Go instead. Following the smartphone sensation’s lead, you now catch monsters by walking up to them in the overworld and using the motion controls of your Switch’s Joy-Con controller to hurl Poké Balls at the cartoon beasts. Nintendo’s optional Poké Ball Plus peripheral provides an even more immersive experience, making you feel like a true Pokémon trainer strolling into the long grass with a
perfectly recreated Poké Ball clutched in your hand.
And battles aren’t the only connection to Pokémon Go - you can even import the creatures you capture on your phone into the
world of Let’s Go! From there, you’re able to play minigames on your Switch that’ll help you power up and evolve your pocket monsters back in Pokémon Go. So, whether you’re old enough to
remember playing Pokémon Yellow 20 ago, or just like to catch Pidgeys in the park with Pokémon Go, Pikachu’s fully fl edged Switch debut looks irresistible.
