HAPPY HUNTING
How to thrive and survive out West
It seems to be going so well as we near the front of the train but suddenly, a soot-stained engineer grabs Arthur from behind and starts to choke the life out of him. Close-quarters combat has been overhauled for Red Dead Redemption 2, so the men grapple for position before Morgan is fi nally able to bring his fi sts to bear. We rain down blow after blow, and
thanks to the game’s new facial deformation technology, we can see bruises blooming in wince-inducing detail on the man’s grimy mug
before he fi nally blacks out. Only now are we able to reach the
engine car and bring the train to a skidding halt, but the robbery isn’t over yet.
Life of crime The armoured loot carriage is
our target, but it’s frustratingly impervious to rifl e fi re. Luckily, dynamite has the doors off in a jiff y and, as the train crew is bound and frogmarched outside, we’re able to rummage through the carriage’s interior until Morgan uncovers a bundle of bearer bonds. Payday. The heist might not have
been plain sailing, but the gang got what it came for. As for all
the witnesses… what to do with them is up to you. Will you play the part of a ruthless killer? Will you run the risk of letting them go, even though they can identify you? Or will you try to force their silence with growled curses and threats? The choice is yours, but you can be sure that there will be lasting consequences for each course of action.
Forget me not That’s because Red Dead
Redemption 2’s gameworld is, in many ways, the most reactive we’ve ever seen. As we pace the mud-streaked streets of a town called Valentine, we’re drawn to the lights of a
nearby hotel. But once we step in, the owner is
immediately on his guard. “Let’s not have any trouble this time,” he stutters, hands raised in fearful trepidation. That’s because people not
only respond to your actions, they also remember them. So if someone witnesses a crime, they’ll run to the law. But, more impressively, if you then bump into them later on in the game, they’ll know who you are and what you’re capable of. They might give you a wide berth on

Out under the stars Your camp needs money, food, and supplies to keep going, plus providing for your fellow outlaws also unlocks camp upgrades. This ramshackle settlement serves as a dynamic and ever-changing hub for missions and interactions with your fellow fugitives.
Silent but deadly Hunting returns in Red Dead Redemption 2, with many useful items and consumables tied to a newly expanded crafting system. While your rifl e will certainly do the job, you’re less likely to damage those precious pelts if you use a bow instead.
Four-legged friend Horses aren’t just disposable vehicles, they’re companions that you build a relationship with over time. So while their saddlebags store your gear and weapons, and you can sling a fresh kill on their back, you can also groom them, and even soothe them when they’re frightened.
