Welcome to the headquarters of the OPEC Fund for International Development: the magnificent Palace of ArchdukeWilhelm

This special publication provides a guide to a building of signifi-

cant historical importance and character, which is the home of the OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID). The palace was originally built in the 1860s for the Habsburg

Archduke Wilhelm Franz Karl. Born in Vienna in 1827, Wilhelm was the great grandson of Empress Maria Theresa and the youngest child of Archduke Charles, the victor of the Bale of Aspern-Essling against Napoleon. The OPEC Fund acquired the palace in 1981 and has invested in

preserving and restoring the building over more than four decades. We are proud to work in such an important building and see it as our duty to share this privilege with a wide audience. The OPEC Fund’s relationship with the City of Vienna is strong

and continues to grow. Parkring 8 serves as a fiing address to con- tinue our international development work in support of vulnerable populations around the world. Please take a look around!

ABDULHAMID ALKHALIFA DIRECTOR-GENERAL
