2021 OUR ENGAGEMENTS
Work begins in January on the renovation and refurbishment of the newly-acquired building on Parkring 6, neighboring the OPEC Fund’s Headquarters in Vienna. Once refurbishment is complete, the Fund’s staff will enjoy a new working environment, while the City of Vienna will benefit from a new event and conference space.
In September IFC Managing Director Makhtar Diop visits Director-General Dr. Abdulhamid Alkhalifa at the OPEC Fund’s Headquarters in Vienna for an update on the mutual cooperation. The OPEC Fund is one of IFC’s top five parallel lenders and has also been one of the first institutions to sign a Master Cooperation Agreement. To date, the OPEC Fund has approved more than US$1.7 billion across 84 projects in partnership with the IFC.
In October, speaking at the inaugural Saudi Green Initiative Forum, Director-General Dr. Abdulhamid Alkhalifa sets out the OPEC Fund’s position on energy transition: “One size does not fit all”, he says and adds that the key is to commit to customized, country-focused support develop and implement their own road maps.
With a €20,000 donation on behalf of its staff, the OPEC Fund in December becomes a Sapphire-Partner of Austria’s largest charity campaign “Licht ins Dunkel” (“Lightening up the Darkness”). It raises funds for projects that benefit local families with children who have social, physical or mental disabilities.
