ACTIVE ADULT PROGRAMS


Looking for a place to stay fit, enjoy activities, and socialize? The Avondale Community Center provides a variety of resources. Enjoy exercise classes, special events, excursions, daily meal service, volunteer opportunities, supportive food assistance programs, and helpful information and resources to help you lead an active and full lifestyle!


To qualify for these programs, participants must be at least 60 years of age or with a disability. Program registration packets are available online at www.AvondaleAZ.gov/seniors or at the Avondale Community Center.

FREE! HEALTH & WELLNESS PRESENTATIONS


Several financial planning, financial aid, senior resource, insurance, and wellness presentations are scheduled each month along with opportunities for medical checks and screenings.


ONGOING ACTIVITIES


}Fun activities such as baking club, sewing club, Wii bowling league, crochet club, Karaoke, crafts, card clubs, and walking club


}Weekly excursions such as casino trips, grocery trips, lunch bunch outings, sporting events, outdoor events and activities, hiking, museums and more!


}Special events/parties }Bingo – held after lunch Monday thru Thursday


SITE COUNCIL


The Avondale Active Adult program is home to the Avondale Site Council, where elected members vote on issues regarding the center, volunteer, help raise funds, and overall promote and help the program and the needs of seniors of the Southwest Valley.


VOLUNTEER


Help the community around you! Participants are given the opportunity to assist with ongoing activities at the center and assist with community events.


TRANSPORTATION


Transportation to and from the center is provided to participants living within set boundaries in the Avondale, Goodyear, Cashion, and Litchfield Park areas. Suggested donation is only 50¢ each way. Transportation may have openings! Call 623-333-2705 for more information.

FOOD RESOURCES Meals at the Center: Daily lunch offered Monday - Thursday at 11:45 am and Friday at 11:30 am, for the suggested donation of $2. Breakfast provided for $2 every Tuesday & Thursday; snack bar items for sale daily for Site Council Fundraisers Sample Menu: Roasted Chicken Breast, Red Skin Mashed Potatoes, Creamy Spinach, Wheat Roll, Cran-apple Sauce and Milk


Home Delivered Meal Program: Delivery of up to 7 meals per week right to your door! Provided in Avondale, Goodyear, and Litchfield Park. Includes daily participant welfare check. Call Area Agency on Aging (602) 264-4357 to proceed with intake process for supplemented meal costs or call Avondale Community Center at (623) 333-2705 to start services paying $5 per meal. Dietary needs can be accommodated. Sample Menu: Stuffed Cheese Shells with Meat Sauce, Salad, Green Beans, Wheat Breadstick, Lemon Gelatin w/Pear Slices and Milk


SUPPLEMENTAL FOOD PROGRAMS In coordination with St. Mary’s Food Bank, the City of Avondale pro- vides a Food Commodity program the 1st Monday of each month and a Mobile Pantry program the 2nd Thursday, 3rd Wednesday and 4th Thursday of each month. This program is first come, first served and is open to the public - no registration or verification required.
