ASSOCIATION INSIGHTS

ATA Outlines Strategic Plan

A

t ATA, we already surpassed my three-year mark as President and CEO of American Trucking Associations. Can you believe it? In just three

short years, our team has been able to achieve some tremendous victories for the trucking industry and for our association’s long-term sustainability.

But what happens next year? How about three years from now? What about five years and beyond? In an effort to streamline association activity to best meet the needs of our growing membership, our leadership team at ATA has been thinking critically about our strategic plan. In fact, at May’s ATA Mid-Year Management Session in Scottsdale, Arizona, we unveiled a preview of the strategic plan to the ATA Board of Directors and Executive Committee.

In order to keep accumulating wins for the trucking industry on Capitol Hill, in state capitols, in regulatory agencies and in the courts, our team is going to be focusing on a number of specific, measurable goals

over the next one, three, and five years. That’s why we’re calling this ATA 1*3*5.

As a member of ATA or a non-member looking to engage further with the industry, you have to operate in a business environment that has tight margins and relies on efficient performance. In the association world, we have to match our members’ efficiency and performance in order to succeed. With that said, here are some tasks we believe are important, and as businesspeople, I think you’ll appreciate the thought that went into having a mission, vision, and initiatives that align.

To learn more about our plan for the next one, three, and five years, I invite you to reach out to your contacts at ATA.

This entire effort is being undertaken to provide an even better return on investment for our members. By operating even more efficiently and with additional precision, we will continue to be able to separate the noise from the real action in Washington, secure legislative and regulatory victories for our industry, and strengthen the long-term position of trucking as the economy’s most essential mover of goods.

By Chris Spear, President and CEO, American Trucking Associations
