▲ Two Lancashire spas have retained their top rankings in the Good Spa Guide, both for the third consecutive year. The Spa Hotel at Ribby Hall Village has been awarded Best Day Spa in the UK, while The Woodland Spa at Crow Wood in Burnley was named Best Hotel Spa.


▲ Rossendale Council has approved the Rawtenstall Masterplan after securing up to £20m in funding over the next ten years through the government’s ’Long Term Plan for Towns’. The Masterplan projects, relating to the gyratory system, Rawtenstall Market and Rawtenstall Connected, are closely linked with other projects in the area being delivered by Lancashire County Council.


▲ Stolle Machinery has been announced as the first tenant of Burnley’s Frontier Park. The USA-based company, which provides machinery for the canning industry, has taken on 158,000 sq ft at the new development. Stolle will invest £20m into the lease and fitout of the space to accommodate its operations and intends to bring 200 jobs, including 27 apprentices, to the site.


▲ Preston City Council has agreed a 15-year lease with the Northern Lights Group, which will run a food hall at the forthcoming Animate leisure complex including a cocktail bar and four bespoke food kiosks let to small businesses.


▲ Unique Kidz and Co, the charity which provides childcare and support for disabled children and adults, has had planning approved for a major two-stage project which will allow it to offer a wider range of amenities to a larger number of families. The project, delivered by HPA Architects, will see its centre on Woodhill Lane, Morecambe, extended and its field, adjacent to Acre Moss Lane, landscaped to include extra facilities.


▲ Chorley-based Northern Trust has secured planning consent for the development of more than 50,000 sq ft in 25 new business units across four strategic locations in the north east, north west, midlands, and Yorkshire.


▲ Next year’s Convention of the North, which brings together businesses, community, academia and political leaders to shape the agenda for the North of England, is coming to Lancashire. The county council will host the event, which will take place at the University of Central Lancashire in Preston next February.


▲ Construction of Exemplar Health Care’s Wytham Lodge in Padiham is expected to be completed by December 2024, creating 100 jobs. The home will support adults living with complex and high acuity needs arising from complex mental health conditions, dementia, neuro-disabilities and physical disabilities.

▲ Rossendale-based construction and development company B&E Boys has been appointed as the new main contractor for the £500,000 refurbishment of Haslingden Market.


▲ Accrington-based Rosslee Construction has begun work on a new £3.1m project to expand a multi-use facility at Blackburn Youth Zone. The charity is building a new employment and skills hub in the Fusebox building on Jubilee Street to capitalise on the Youth Zone’s success with employability projects.


▲ Blackburn-based nutrition firm Science in Sport has raised £8m through placing more than 47 million shares at a price of 17p. The shares represent 25.8 per cent of the AIM-listed company’s total issued share capital. Existing backer Lombard Odier Investment Managers committed to 13 million of the shares, and executive chairman Daniel Wright has increased his holding from 1.7m to 5.9m shares.


▲ Blackburn-based pet food manufacturer Pets Choice has acquired the vegan brand HOWND from Power Pet Brands. HOWND, established in 2015, specialises in plant-based wet and dry dog food, wellness treats and cruelty-free-certified pet care products.


▲ An auction of Elmer sculptures has raised £143,550 for Brian House Children’s Hospice. For eight weeks, decorated statues of iconic children’s character Elmer were positioned around Blackpool, with families invited to spot them all.
