Alicia, who joined CoolKit as a sales and marketing graduate
trainee, has been a driving force in its growth.
In July 2023, when CoolKit suffered a fire that gutted the main manufacturing unit, she played a pivotal role in orchestrating its rapid recovery.
As well as spearheading construction and delivery of vans from an alternative unit, she was instrumental in relocating the company to a new manufacturing facility, further enhancing operational capabilities and resilience.
Her remarkable leadership ensured CoolKit not only survived the crisis but emerged stronger. She also leads a training programme covering quality, supervision, and sustainability.
ASHLEY
WALKER Director, HSE Advice UK 34
Having worked in health and safety since 2011, Ashley set up
her business in 2021 during the pandemic whilst also working full time.
It helps companies in their legal compliance and she has started a project with Lancaster University Management School, currently in the R&D phase, called ‘Safety Box’.
It will be a new app providing business owners with practical, efficient advice on what they need to do to be compliant with health and safety legislation.
Ashley is growing the consultancy organically by taking on apprentice level students and developing them into forward thinking consultants.
JEN WOOLLEY Director, TWA Marketing and Communications 33
Jen plays an instrumental role in the success of
her own business, as well as others.
Through her marketing expertise Jen has supported the transformation and growth of countless regional and international businesses.
As a director, she plays a key role in TWA’s success, which has resulted in 15 per cent growth in turnover in 2023 compared with 2022.
She is also a mentor for her team – coaching the employees she hopes one day will buy the business - as well as other professionals in the industry.
RACHEL ELIZABETH
WOOD Director, British Jewellery School 34
Rachel, who dreamed of making jewellery as
a young child, trained as a classical goldsmith and silversmith.
She has worked for the best fashion houses in London and the world-renowned Goldsmiths Company. Her work has been exhibited at The British Museum as part of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations and showcased at the V&A in London.
She launched her business in 2012 and in 2021 opened the British Jewellery School, helping people to craft their own individual pieces. The first school opened in Wyre. There are now two in the south with more in the pipeline.

ENCOURAGING YOUNG TALENT

I was only 26 years old when I took a leap of faith and set up Love to Brand, and I remember what it was like carving a place for myself in the business world, and one which was notably male dominated.
Though, if I’m honest, I’d probably liken my approach to that of a bulldozer than a carving knife!
Through publications like the Lancashire Business View, I was able to promote myself and the business, and this provided me with a credible reputation which catapulted me forward to where I am today.
So when I was asked to sponsor and judge Lancashire Business View’s Women in Business Feature, I jumped at the chance.
Any opportunity to highlight and congratulate the young women in society who are making an impression in the business world of Lancashire should be not only encouraged, but celebrated.
One day I would hope there will not be a need for a ‘Women’s feature’, and the ratio of female business owners, entrepreneurs and leaders will be more equal to that of their male counterparts.
However, unless we encourage and support the younger female generation to take on these roles, and make them believe that doing so is achievable, we’ll be seeing features like this for a long time to come.
