Speed and flexibility from polymer
Not originally specified for the project, the flexibility, durability and performance of REHAU’sMCLP, RAUTITAN, convinced the consultant and mechanical contractor to reconsider the original
specification. The quick-to-install solution was a clear choice for the contractors to address the challenges brought about by the high-specification development, and the designwas adapted to include RAUTITAN instead. “When it comes to PE-Xa pipework such as RAUTITAN, you have more durability and flexibility than youwould have with metal equivalents,” said AlvaroMarin.“Ontop of thiswewere impressed by the robust jointing systemand compression sleeves during a demonstration of the product froma REHAUrepresentative. With this systemyou get great durability at high pressure thanks to this jointing, and, whenwe put it to the client,we agreed it was the clear choice for this high- specification project.” The pipeworkwas installed into concealed ceiling areas and delivered water to the building services such as the kitchens, bathrooms, and boiler and cylinder
cupboards. Thanks to the lightweight polymer and quick, secure jointing, the systemwas installed quickly and easily in the space, especially given that time and spacewere at a premiumwhile working alongside the other trades onsite. “The sitewas very busy andwe often found ourselves jumping from apartment to apartment to carry out the installation,”saidMichael Moffat of Platinum(Scotland Plumbing) Ltd.“Onthewhole, wewere able to quickly install the pipework andwe had a ready supply of materials and tools available sowe could get our part done without any issues.” “The sitewas busy with other trades and so the quick jointing system allowed the installer to complete theirwork quickly, leaving no opportunity forhumanerror to compromise the robustness of the system,”Marin adds.“Fromthat point of view, using RAUTITANhelped
in a project of this nature, as it removes concerns about the internal plumbing performance aswell as theworries about installation issues with such complicated design.”
Going the extra mile
With time-sensitive and complex developments such asThe Pavilion, the availability of construction materials and tools throughout the duration of a project is a key concern for contractors. If supply of certain materials experiences issues, entire aspects of the development can experience delays, which could hold up other processes onsite and potentially cause problems for the purchasers of the properties waiting tomove in. Fromthe outset, the contractorswere pleased with the ready supply of product, materials and tools fromREHAUthrough regional sales manager in charge of the project,MarkTaylor. Onsite training was also provided, which meant the installer was not only comfortable with installing a product theymay not be familiar with, but could also be ready to quickly install the pipework in the limited windows around the other trades present onsite. “The support fromREHAUonsitewas very important for us and the M&Econtractor,”saidMarin.“Mark ensured that therewas sufficient training for the contractor, assisted with the supply and availability of tools and material, which Platinum Ltd. found very helpful.” “The Pavilion has been a great project for REHAUto be involved with andwewere pleased that the great performance of RAUTITANwas able to convince the consultant involved to change their specification,” saidMark.“We pride ourselves on the support and trainingwe give to contractors throughout the duration of our project, and the results of this project have been fantastic.
He adds,“thanks to the success of this project, the Blackwood selected RAUTITANfor their next project withAMANewtown, Springwell. We are looking forward to progressing this development of 48 homes in Edinburgh with the teams involved.”
Colus Ltd and RSM Lining Supplies innovative services help complete critical CIPP rehabilitation with the use of LED curing technology
Having been a loyal customer ofRSMfor a number of years,Colus Ltd is an innovative provider of sewer rehabilitation services to a range ofUK based organisations, water companies, and local
authorities.Colus were recently asked by the main framework contractor for Severn Trent,AmeyPLC, to rehabilitate a 40 metre section of300mmpipe. With the vast amount of technology available and understanding of the use of CIPP they knewthis could be carried out
successfully.Colus have the capabilities to use a variety of different curing methodologies including hotwater, ambient, and recentlywith further investment, LEDUV. TheColus teamvisited site to assess the issues and found that the job wasmuchmore complex than
anticipated.The surface water pipe that

required rehabilitation was suspended over the RiverDerwent and was leaking into the river. Both sides of the river had small, tight manholes with one access point through a dirt track and the other in a field. These access issues and the condition of the pipemademultiple methods of install impossible. After discussions with theRSMtechnical teamit was decided that the Sewertronics systemColus recently added to their equipment range was going to be the best method for curing the
liner. This systemcures the liner with LED bulbs, meaning there is no risk of premature cure of the liner due to an exothermic reaction fromheat or any other external
elements. The systemitself is also incredibly compact, meaning the tight access pointswould not be an issue. Itwas agreed that the liner
