AnglianWater Services haswon an honourwhich recognises its commitment to promoting safety outside of theworkplace, as part of the internationally-renowned RoSPA Awards.
The company is only the second-ever recipient of the Safe@Work- Safe@Home Trophy, sponsored by L’Oréal,which is a special category in the health and safety industry’s biggest awards scheme. The award places emphasis on good health and safety practice being taken beyond the threshold of the shop floor and out into the community. The Safe@Work-Safe@Home Award initiative reflects an increasing focus on “carry-over” programmes, which recognise that employees and their families and friends are affected by injury and ill health outside of thework environment.
Judges, including L’Oréal’s corporate health and safety director MalcolmStaves, were highly impressed by Anglian’s Safer LIFE programme, which helps employees consider the choices theymake and take responsibility for their actions at home aswell as in the workplace. Among other themes, the initiative promotes discussion and consideration over issues of personal safety, such as the risks and chanceswe take ourselves, or allowothers to take.
RoSPA chief executive Errol Taylor said: “Theworkplace is actually one of the safest environments to be in. It’swhen you’re at home, or
