Flusher2’s original uses have extended even further. Its ability to enhance other solutions such as Dosing to resolve existing FOG problems including Fatbergs can effectively replace the need for dangerous manual intervention. To prevent H2S (Hydrogen Sulphide) degradation of sewer infrastructure further benefits capital and operational budgets and extends the life cycle of valuable drainage assets. The ability to provide safe “Dry Pipe” conditions to enhance the visibility and safe passage of CCTV Survey systems, and more effective remediation and localised repairs by improving the opportunity to monitor and effectively manage the work for longer without visibility being obscured by standing or surcharged water is a clear advantage. However, potentially one of the most significant additional benefits of these low-cost retro fit solutions is yet to be fully explored and exploited. That is the ability to attenuate or balance flows during rainfall events. Unused storage capacity throughout many catchments, particularly within the upstream extents of a system, allows this unused space to be used first before downstream low-lying properties or areas suffer the effects of flooding, or CSO’s discharge prematurely with the consequence of unnecessary and avoidable pollution to our Rivers and

Watercourses. In the future this could further facilitate the use of lower cost larger online storage tanks or upsized pipes to be incorporated with the discharge regulated by Flusher2. This would obviously offer the added benefit that the released flows when storm conditions pass, actively clean, and keep clean both the enlarged storage areas, and the downstream catchment simultaneously. Also, offering opportunities to divert flow more effectively to Nature based solutions such as SUDs whilst allowing Flusher2 to trigger a reduced diameter high level overflow allowing periodic release of excess lower concentration effluent to prevent localised overspilling and flooding.


So, what’s the answer and who do you feel is responsible?


So where does this pent-up frustration and anger come from and why has this monster been created. Well, maybe the answer is simple?


Despite a significant investment made by the Water Industry and therefore the water rate payers many decades ago, trying to understand the reasons for sedimentation and the formation of blockages and the effectiveness of sewer cleansing methods used. Not only have our Water Utilities every day since disregarded the data and the lessons learned, but they have also continued to perpetuate the growth of an industry that has always been unsustainable and destined for failure. Little or no investment has been made in High-Volume, Low-Pressure preventative maintenance systems during the intervening period, but simple, low-cost solutions and benefits provided by techniques, such as Flusher2 have been and continue to be largely disregarded. The commercial power of what is now a vast Sewer Jetting Industry, dictates the path taken virtually unopposed.


Whether Flusher2 is a success or failure is largely unimportant. What is important however, is the need for Water Utilities to recognise that existing methods are entirely opposite to the ones needed to achieve and environmentally acceptable and sustainable future. To achieve the stated aims for carbon neutrality and cleaner rivers. To reduce flooding and enhance post flood event disaster recovery. To reduce TOTEX costs and manage the escalating charges for the provision of water and dealing with the effective disposal and treatment of liquid waste. It should be clear to all that a new approach is needed now. This could be achieved by using Flusher2 or another solution, but one with the capability to deliver the same sustainable benefits. When this is done, then I personally promise, that this particular monster goes away, along with the other monsters, Fatbergs!
