Flood risk to new town

In other news locally, plans for a new “Garden” town across the A303 near Ilchester have been proposed. Te

plans include 15,000 homes, schools, healthcare facilities and a university, and could generate 19,000 jobs. South West Strategic Developments put forward these plans for an area between Yeovil and Babcary. Critics of this

plan, however, argue that the location is flawed. Two local councillors have expressed concerns that the area is a flood risk, advocates for the scheme insist it is not on a flood plain.

Developments Planned

Te burning issues in the South West this year look set to include the ongoing discussions around the Bristol Arena, the shape of Bristol in the future as developments are planned and actioned

throughout the city and the delivery of the metro bus scheme. Te Metrobus is set to be completed in April so watch this space for an update on the impact it has

Arena location

Te arena remains a talking point as deliberations continue on its location. Possible venues include a site adjacent to Temple Meads, which campaigners argue would be more accessible and would

generate revenue in the City Centre. Te other option is Brabazon Hangar at Filton Airfield. It is argued would allow for a larger venue, more generous car parking provision and

associated concessions. However, critics say this venue will provide a smaller economic benefit to the city. Te final location is due to be revealed at a Bristol City Council cabinet meeting on Tuesday 1st May.
