School Liaison Team

The school liaison team works with local secondary schools to make sure that all pupils understand all the options that are available to them in further education, and help them make the transition from school to college as seamless as possible. As part of this, they offer taster days, skills workshops and open events.

The Guidance Centre

The Guidance Centre is on hand to answer any questions you may have – whether this is before, during or after your time at college. You can ask them about courses, enrichment, transport, funding and anything else that’s worrying you about starting college.

Any question, big or small, get in contact: advice@petroc.ac.uk 01884 235245

Careers

During your time at Petroc, we will encourage you to think about your future. Your tutor will guide you through an individual action plan and carry out regular reviews.

Our Guidance Centre is well equipped to help you plan your next steps, and career/personal advisors are available for one-to-one interviews. There will also be a comprehensive programme of visiting speakers and careers events to inspire you.

We are able to offer a travel pass for public transport to and from Petroc. For the latest information and the online application form, please visit petroc.ac.uk/transport.

You may be entitled to assistance with your transport costs from the Bursary.

Financial help

If you need help paying for equipment for your course, or are struggling to pay for childcare, we may be able to help via the Bursary Fund. Call into the Guidance Centre for more information.

Childcare

The Government runs a childcare support scheme for students under the age of 20 called ‘Care to Learn’, which gives young learners with children the opportunity to continue with their studies. Ask the Guidance Centre for more details.

Equality and Diversity

At Petroc, we want everyone to feel valued and be treated with respect. We truly believe everyone should be treated fairly and we are committed to eliminating discrimination, harassment and victimisation in any form.

We incorporate equality into our core objectives and promote equal opportunities.

At Petroc, we welcome everyone, regardless of age, disability, gender reassignment, marital or civil partnership status, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex or sexual orientation.

Professional Tutors

When you start college you will be allocated a Professional Tutor. They will get to know you and help support you on your course, and assist you in planning your future.

Part of their role will be to monitor your attendance and to support you with any issues that may arise. They are your first port of call for advice and, if needed, will put you in touch with further support.

Professional Tutors will help motivate you to become a successful learner and to achieve your full personal and academic potential.

Additional Support

We take our responsibility to provide you with additional support, when needed, very seriously, and offer a range of help to meet your needs – including specifically designed courses. You should indicate any medical/ learning needs clearly on your application, so we can discuss it at interview and ensure the appropriate support is in place when you begin your course.
