SAN DIEGO HIGHLIGHTS WATERFRONT DEVELOPMENT
San Diego Tourism Authority (NA440) is highlighting new cultural events such as the Wonderfront music festival, which takes place for the first time later this month. Another major development will be the opening in 2020 of the first phase of the $1.5 billion Manchester Pacific Gateway development, designed to turn San Diego’s port district into a waterfront plaza.
WALES PREPARES FOR YEAR OF OUTDOORS
Let the Outdoors In will be the message from Visit Wales (UK100) as it prepares to launch the Year of Outdoors in 2020. The tourist board will be releasing a new trends report during WTM London, focusing on the latest developments in outdoor tourism including the positive impact these activities have on personal wellbeing. Attractions and specialists in outdoor tourism including The Wales Way, Cadw and Adventure Tours UK will also be attending.
SEATTLE SHOWCASES PACKED CALENDAR OF EVENTS
New hotels, a packed diary of events and a multitude of outdoor activities will be the key topics for Visit Seattle (NA140) at WTM London. The next hotel to make its debut in the city will be citizenM Seattle in January 2020, while new glass-sculpting festival Refract recognises Seattle’s
position as a
major destination for glass art,
while craft beer is another speciality.

OAXACA MAKES PLAY FOR EUROPEAN MARKETS
The governor of the Mexican state of Oaxaca (LA100), Alejandro Murat Hinojosa, will be leading the delegation to WTM London to promote the destination in Europe. Oaxaca will be focusing on key travel segments such as culture, gastronomy and responsible tourism. One recent development has seen the creation of a whale-watching zone off Oaxaca’s coast covering an area of 108 square miles. Fares start from £2,995pp.
DISCONNECTING IN THE ITALIAN MOUNTAINS
Heart of the Dolomites (EU50) in the Italian mountains is promoting itself as the perfect place for consumers to take a break from hectic everyday lives and recharge in a natural setting. The tourist board has been running a “viral” campaign giving 10 people the chance to spend five days in the Dolomites and enjoy “total disconnection”. The destination is also creating new experiences featuring mindfulness activities and input from a psychologist.
PROHIBITION CENTENARY IN SPOTLIGHT FOR MISSOURI
SANTIKOS TO GIVE UPDATES ON HOTELS AND RESORTS
Greece’s Santikos Collection (EU1095) will be focusing on the opening of its first city hotel on the Athens Riviera, The Alex, which features a rooftop bar and restaurant with views across the Greek capital. Santikos is also discussing its three-year development plans for The Skiathos Princess Resort to improve its family offering including a new outdoor playground, increased facilities for toddlers and more family-orientated activities.
Missouri (NA450) will be promoting the 100th anniversary of Prohibition in 2020 as well as the state’s bicentennial in 2021. Other developments include the renovation of the grounds and a new museum at the iconic Gateway Arch in St Louis. Tiger Woods’ first public golf course, Payne’s Valley, in the Ozarks opens in 2020.
KYOTO HOTEL GIVES LESSONS ON JAPANESE ETIQUETTE
Kyoto Traveler’s Inn (AS800) will be showcasing its traditional Japanese accommodation including futon bedding and tatami flooring ahead of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. The hotel has also been sharing its tips on Japanese etiquette, such as using chopsticks and visiting a communal bath.
