Connect19 President's Perspective

by Kevin Stone, President

When promoting Connect19, I told you that our goal was to connect you with “people, information and resources to help you do ministry better.” As we planned each element of Connect, these goals were in mind. Even parts of the event that we’ve done every year

were examined to see if we could add to or increase these areas of connection. Based on informal conversations, survey results and personal observations — I believe we succeeded. Tere are cer- tainly areas in which we can continue to improve, but it seems to me that Connect19 was a success — and I enjoyed it thoroughly!

While there are many to choose from, I’d like to give just

one example of how we connected in each of the three aforemen- tioned areas.

Connecting with People: We held “Directed Ministry

Conversations (forums),” in which church leaders met with other leaders in the same area of ministry to share ideas. Initially, I thought these forums would contribute most in the areas of information and resources — as folks were able to share what is working for them and what isn’t. However, this turned out to be a great opportunity to connect with people! As one person shared his or her struggles or victories, another from a similar church realized that maybe this person has helpful experience. Contact information was exchanged and now several churches have an experienced “consultant” that they didn’t have before.

Connecting with Information: Joe Dallas proved to be a great keynote speaker. He addressed our biblical response to sexual sin such as homosexuality and transgenderism. Joe has a lifetime of experience and insight that is invaluable when trying to cope with these difficult situations. Many who attended Con- nect19 leſt with a far better understanding of the issues we face and how we can respond to them in a godly way. Tese issues will likely impact every one of our churches at some point or another, ,

so if you were not able to attend, I encoura e you to watch Joe’s messages on our website.

Global Partnerships, gives churches a valuable tool they can use to identify and prepare potential missionaries. Tis program recognizes that the local church should be involved in preparing our missionaries, and provides detailed guidance on how church leaders can partner with potential missionaries to create a healthy foundation even before a sending agency is involved. You can find more information within the brochure on our website, or contact your church leadership for a copy of the GPP Handbook.

I believe that these connections and many more were valu-

able to the folks who attended. In the midst of all of that connecting, we also handled the

business of the Fellowship, making several important decisions. Your delegates approved a budget, elected new leaders and unan- imously approved several amendments to our Constitution — which will be discussed elsewhere in this edition.

We introduced our new Ministries Coordinator, Gary

Krehbiel, and talked about how he and I will work to provide Fellowship churches with improved care and support. We dis- cussed the future of the FEBC and how we intend to streamline the organization to better meet our current needs. For instance, we plan to add a Commission on Pastoral Care which will focus on — well— caring for pastors.

We discussed the need for increased church involvement

and our desire not only to plant churches, but to explore adding mature churches to our Fellowship. If you know of a church that might be a good fit for the FEBC, let us know — or encourage their leaders to consider contacting us.

Tat’s just a taste of what happened at Connect19. As I mentioned earlier, I think the event was a success — and I’m very grateful to God for that success. I am also grateful to all of the FEBC staff members, directors, commission members, CBC staff, volunteers and guest speakers that helped make this possible. Tank you to each of you who attended as well. I know attending means a sa eacheach of us will conti
